As an aside - cases (Xs max) ? There’s not a lot of choice out there

The problem with a new form-factor. You either have the 'hit and hope' cases where they've got dimensions off the internet and have rushed cases out hoping things like the cut-outs will be accurate (which they often aren't), or you have to wait to cases to be released once the company has got the phone and measured everything. The Max is a big ol' beast and I don't want to add much more bulk, so we'll see if this Bare case I ordered lives up to the hype as almost invisible, super thin, and a new halfway house material for cases that sits between the gel-like TPU and hard plastic...

If it sucks I may have to just get the Pitaka Aramid case when it becomes available on Amazon UK (they have it for sale on their own US site) although I wanted something to show off the silver back seeing as I've had black phones for donkeys years.

I may go down in size.

I think the 14 days return still applies under iUP?

Took my XS Max back to Apple, now got a iPhone XS 64gb in Gold. Really like the colour, much more interest than SG.

The Max was a bit too big, and also I cba to wait for update apps that may or may not come.

Just picked my Max up, now just have to be in the mood to sort it out. Will be interesting to see how I get on given that I'm currently on an X and I had Plus phones previously. It will take a bit of getting used to again and this will also be the first big iPhone where control centre is a joke to open up when using with one hand. Hoping I don't regret it and have to faff around to switch to an XS.

I find opening control centre on the Max is quite easy with reachability thing enabled, quick pull down from where the home button would be then drag from top corner bit. Couple of days doing it like that and it's now automatic, sure not as quick as swipe up but hardly an inconvenience now I'm used to it.

Using the Max with one hand you'll be using reachability quite a lot, even with large hands it's too cumbersome to stretch across the whole thing.

Could't be happier with my upgrades from 6S Plus and Watch Series 0, don't know how I managed to hold out but so glad I did!

Can anyone tell me how to get the battery remaining percentage showing next to the battery symbol top right of screen please?!

Not that it makes any difference but it's an XS Max. Thanks!

You can't have it displayed permanently. Only way to see it is to swipe down from top right to bring control centre down and you'll see it there.

Ok well I’m going to call them today as I’ve sold my pixel 2XL which will cover my buy out fee (and then some) so will see what they offer me, how long have you been with them may I ask?

Don’t worry about length of time, they will transfer you to upgrades, they will try to make a offer refuse it and they will put you thru to retentions who have more discount power. They call it refuse to lose

Anyone who has moved from an Android phone after a number of years got any tips? I know Apple have a migration app on Android but does anyone know exactly what sort of stuff it manages to pick up? e.g does it do the WhatsApp message database as well as all the media?

Anyone know if there's a simple way of me moving my photos across easily from my Android phone (Galaxy S9+) - I don't have them synced to the cloud in any form and prefer to keep them in "albums" (just separate folders on Android under the main camera storage folder).

Also, does anyone find it crazy that there doesn't appear to be any "info" display options in the camera/photo app on photos or videos, i.e to see the location tag or resolution/filesize info? Surely this doesn't need a third party app, or does it?

I got the XS Max on pre-order on Friday as I thought I really wanted the bigger screen and theoretically better battery life but ended up taking it back and getting a normal XS on the weekend because the Max was just a little bit too big (even compared to the S9+) for single handed use due to needing to swipe up from the bottom so frequently to switch apps and being very slightly wider than the S9+. The Max also has quite a bit more slippery sides so in the end I decided to downgrade the screen size for a more comfortable sized phone.

Move to iOS moves contacts, Photos and will download any free apps you previously had.

Calendar events are probably synced to your gmail so logging in brings those back.

WhatsApp used to work when they backed up to their own server but now they use google for android backups and iCloud for iOS backups so you can’t move them between each platform without some third party software and a windows machine or Mac.

Apple do hide the photo EXIF data so third party app is required (I guess file size isn’t really important to the typical user and photos are auto grouped into locations in albums)

So ermm somehow I have managed to snag a gold 256gb iPhone XS today on the Apple upgrade program lol.

I went in to my local Apple store to have a play with one, which I did on both the XS and Max versions. I was really liking the max version but thought it’s going to be a pain carrying that around in my jeans pocket. So looked at the XS, as I was toying around with it...some young lass came up and started to talk about the new iPhones. Anyhow 30mins later I find myself walking out with one in my hand with the Apple upgrade as well.

I’ll be honest I wasn’t that keen on them as I was contemplating on just keeping my 6s and getting a new battery put in. But somehow I was convinced to get the xs.

So here I am at home a proud owner of a gold 256gb iPhone xs. Haven’t even started to set it up yet. I know the missus will be wanting to get one as she has the 6s+ And i imagine she will want the xs max.

Congrats. You’ll really enjoy it. This is the closest to perfection I think I’ve ever had in regards to mobile phones.

Performance, battery, screen, camera, software. It’s all perfect.

My only small niggle is that the polished gold edges are very delicate (I already have a slight imperfection/dark spot next to the speaker grille where the case doesn’t cover it, never mind, I don’t know if it was me or it was shipped that way tbh) so get a case on it if you want to keep it pristine :p

Edit. Unplugged at 5:30 this morning, currently with 3 hours screen on time and 52% battery remaining. So the battery is impressing me so far

So called EE upgrades and was offered a a 64GB XS Max with 10GB of data, unlimited calls and sms, with an early upgrade fee of £240 (should have been £286) and a monthly cost of £63 per month for 24 months ...?Does that sound like a good deal?

Not including the early upgrade fee since that's your choice the actual phone doesn't seem to bad, taking out the £1099 cost of the handset the 10GB data, unlimited everything else works out to be like £17 a month which isn't horrible, especially since EE tend to be a bit pricier.

Well the best sim only deal I could find for EE was £14 per month after cash back, 10gb data, unlimited calls and sms so £3 off that £72 more over the 24 months total, might try calling them back tomorrow and see if I can get any more out of them! Looked at the installments and over 24 months (with Applcare) its £62.30 per month, added in a sim only deal that would be £76.30 a month so ......
