Perhaps part of the reason why many apps weren't upgraded to the Max in time for launch day - what a joke

http://www.eod.com/blog/2018/09/rejected/

Incredible!! I’m looking at most of my apps thinking I’m sure developers could have updated their apps after the announcement and so by now we should start seeing the updates.

Looks like it may be a bit longer, it’s exactly the same as I remember when the first plus size phone came out. WhatsApp, NatWest (which for some reason also doesn’t support Face ID anymore) and a bunch more all look pretty poor on this device right now.

Also, has anyone noticed the landscape view on the Max, let’s say in the email app is pretty badly executed too? It feels a bit rushed to me.

There is 2 options with apple

You can use there Upgrade plan which include the apple care in the price

or

Phone Payment plan which doesn't include the apple care but it only saves you £10 a month so most people go with the apple care route.. Which version you after
Thanks for explaining, the XS Max 64gb or the XS 64gb need to check the sizes when I pop into the Watford Apple store today

The fact that the XS has a single moulded L shape battery but the XS max has the old two battery design also indicates a slightly last minute decision IMO

Just seen this... spent a good amount of time yesterday trying to figure out how to get Face ID working on tha Natwest app. All searches and Natwest FAQ’s said it is supported. What’s going on?

Looks like EE do a good SIM Only plan 10gb data, unlimited calls/sms £14 per month for 12 months...

Not sure why you have to pay for AppleCare unless you go over the 12 months which I get, I'd opt not to got for that and go for straight finance

In my experience the AppleCare almost paid for itself with the premium i managed to sell the phone for - so the peace of mind cost nothing

So how do I go about getting the monthly cost do I select the handset I want and go through to payments and select the IUP or finance

Well coming from an 8+ to a Xs I'm pretty darn happy.

The smaller phone size is perfect but with the bigger screen, exactly what I was after. Speed increase is noticeable between the two, FaceID has worked every single time and the screen is lovely.

Now I'm tempted with the 4th gen watch

Apple website - iPhone - iPhone upgrade program - join - reserve a phone.
Then at the store simply tell the specialist you prefer the payments plan (no apple care) if you’ve decided to go for that one instead

I normally do iUP, buy outright but this year EE gave me a stonier of an upgrade deal:

100GB Max Plan, no upfront fee, iPhone 256GB XS Max and reduced my early upgrade fee from £554 to £54 - £70.40pm.

It works out at around £17-18pm for the max plan when you deduct the cost of the phone. They also offered me the 512GB for £78.40pm.

Did you ask for your PAC code?

Did you ask for your PAC code?

Yes. When I first called, even though I selected to leave, they put you through to whoever happens to be free which isn't upgrades/retentions. They quoted a buy out of £554 to which I said yes, that's fine. I saw people mention similar deals at the same price but with an upfront fee. So, I wanted to check.

Then they connect you to upgrades/retentions. I was shocked at the deal, I had already ordered from Apple at full price but this deal was too good to decline.

They also waved the £100 upfront handset fee too.

Ok well I’m going to call them today as I’ve sold my pixel 2XL which will cover my buy out fee (and then some) so will see what they offer me, how long have you been with them may I ask?

It's worth a try for sure.

Around 12 years - pre-EE.

I notice there's still plenty of stock around - o2 have stock of everything except for the 512GB Max variants and the Gold 512GB Xs for example. Is it a case of Apple actually pulling their finger out and having sufficient stock to meet demand for a change, or is it that nobody really seems to care about this release? Or perhaps the stock outside of the mobile networks is a bit more limited and this is just a case of people not wanting to pay the contract prices - but I actually happen to think that this year they're a bit more reasonable, certainly with o2 anyway.

With that said, I'm far from excited about it, but I should have my Max today :) And no contract pricing to mess around with either.

Coming from an iPhone 7 to an XS, there are so many things I am struggling to get used to:
  • Having to point the phone at my face to open it. If I'm laying in bed or doing something where part of my face is covered, it works 70% of the time. Touch ID was way more flexible.
  • Reachability is much slower and less reliable. Most swipes down don't bring down the screen.
  • Control centre coming from the top is an absolute idiot idea when using the phone one handed.
  • Can't see battery % without accessing control centre.
  • Refresh rate is shocking. I can see lines when I scroll at medium speed. Never had this with the LCD screen.

Where I work we had twice as much stock as the 8 and 8 plus launch.

Shows on the business website as:
Monthly cost £79.00
One-off cost £41.67
Ex VAT.

I thought it looked quite expensive but I haven't spoken to them.

I agree on a couple of those but most of the time the updated UX is amazing IMO.

FaceID is brilliant 99% of the time and I much prefer it to touchID. Like you say though, when you aren't in direct line of the phone, touchID is better. I do plenty of stuff that makes my fingerprint either a bit battered and distorted or plain ruined so faceID is great for that. I love how little you have to do in order to authenticate things.

Reachability seems to work 100% of the time for me but perhaps its a split second slower. Not sure on that though.

I agree on this. I think they ran out of good ways to pull this down on the new screen/swipe based interface they have designed.

Battery % is a minor annoyance but it would be nice to be able to see it easier.

Refresh rate seems fine for me. Certainly not something I have noticed coming from a 7+.

Overall 90% of the changes give a better experience and 10% of them are worse.
