***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

been running PA for a while, just decided to flash stock (4.2.2) then re-flash PA, just for the sake of a clean install.

going to put all my apps and data back on using titanium backup which is backed up onto dropbox.

all i can say is, it is a complicated process, you need to remember to update recovery, and also remember to factory reset before flashing PA, even though it is going from one clean install to another.

You dont need to update recovery every time. Plus you didnt need to flash stock and then reflash PA. You could have just wiped teh whole phone and then installed PA and GApps directly.

Its simple man. Reboot into recovery and then Wipe system/data/factory rest/clear cache/clear delvik cache etc. That takes a few minutes at most.

Then fire up Wug's Nexus Toolkit and send the latest ROM and GApps over for flashing and it automates the process. All of it takes 5 minutes at the most and you have a fresh phone with a clean install.

I always do a clean install and that means not loading anything from the previous install and that means the apps and their data. I only save the preferences for Nova Launcher / Widget Locker / PA which i reload after the clean install.

I prefer to setup everything again (including re-downloading all my apps and setting them up again). The whole process takes about an hour at the most. Not sure if re-adding apps and their data from a back up onto a clean isnt all really is a clean install.....?

Maybe I'll give it a try again at some point, I was just disapointed that it kept notifying me as to how the traffic would be for my journey home each day when I was half way home, I excpected it to learn what time I tend to leave work.

No it is supposed to be repetitive though, I understood the point being info around just in case you need it? I can see that might get under your skin though if you decided you didn't want it to be like that.

I'm still amused by the novelty factor lol :)

I guess its still handy as I can easily bring up the traffic info, I was probably just expecting different things. I suppose its early days anyway, will certainly be interesting to see how it develops.

Nothing wrong with reloading apps and data. They aren't really going to have much of an effect. The only thing to be aware of is that apps that synchronise data will not do so until they are opened just so that they can start all their background processes etc, and that many (I've found around half of my apps) will not sync unless data is cleared (starting from scratch for that app). There is no difference between redownloading apps from the Play Store and restoring them through a backup app without their data.

Anyone know which ROMs have volume rocker skip tracks, is it JUST cyagenmod? If so is anyone running it?
I'm pretty sure that most (I think all but I don't want to put false information out there unintentionally) of the custom ROMs offer this feature. I run CM myself as it is very polished and stable (find it has very few bugs compared to PA for example), stays close to AOSP guidelines (hence why there is no resizing of navigation buttons, for example), and has the features that I require, nothing more or nothing less. In that respect it is essentially perfect, exactly what I'm looking for. The reason that it is more stable is likely because of its less "experimental" nature.

AOKP has far more features but will generally be a more buggy release. What PA trades in terms of little features it makes up for with all of the layout customisations, though like AOKP, it is generally a more buggy release.

All depends what you are looking for really.

Since 4.2.2 update, I am not always getting notifications, until I wake up the phone.

So now, I just sent an email and the LED is not flashing for a good minute or so. Before it was instant. If I turn the screen on then the email appears instantly.

Is this because the phone is "sleeping" properly now and checking wifi less frequently than 4.2.1 ?

Can I ask what bugs you are referring to? Because PA sticks to AOSP guidelines more so than CM does.

Should have made it clearer, AOSP design guidelines: http://developer.android.com/design/style/metrics-grids.html

How does PA stick to AOSP guidelines more than CM? I fail to see this.

Bugs, relatively frequent System UI force closes for some (me included when I used it for a few days last week) and app incompatibilities with resizing (yes, not a PA bug, but a point that must be made when referring to an important capability of the software) are the main two.
