***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

Hmmm just looking I've noticed these are skins for the rear. I'm looking for something to provide a bit of protection for the entire phone?

i just bought a case for less than £4 which offers the same amount of protection as a ballistic £30.

check out the accessories thread.

it's that good for £3.80 i bought another for the wife.

I know this is a nerdy thing to do but as I work for a manufacturer of such things I just want to warn you that just because something has a load of silicone around it it doesn't necessarily offer the same protection.

There are plenty of examples of these cheap ass ruggedised cases that have never been tested, clearly there's more protection than no protection or perhaps a hard case but to say something that doesn't even have the material cost of something like ballistic, otterbox or griffin etc is nonsense.

Watch out for the silicone becoming very floppy over time and I'd be astonished if any thought had gone into where the silicone is deployed, how it absorbs impacts etc etc.

Just be careful! It looks like a steal for £4 and I'm sure it'll be fine but you get what you pay for.

Not sure it quite works that way, the expensive hard cases in particular like the Reath Slim have very clear weaknesses at the top which offer zero protection at all. I can't believe that the more expensive ones put much more into the design than to ensure it is covered but if you have a particular case you would rate personally then always on the look out for a better case. I got mine from mobilefun for £10 and ebay it was £5 - I have no doubt they are one and the same case :)

Re the Silicon, that is beyond me, wasn't aware that different grades could be used but always happy to read more if it teaches me something.

I don't think any case manufacturer offers a guarantee for drop resistance and tbh some of the case protectors make me wonder why even bother getting a nice slim phone for the extra bulk they add.

well you can't get one for the nexus 4 unfortunately but if you were so inclined I'd say something with an actual quality test behind it such as the Griffin Survivor would be a good shout but there's plenty of options.

To be honest I've never heard of Reath, I wouldn't class them as a tier 1 manufacturer.

But it's massive - the only positive thing about these style cases - outside of the protection would be the stands they come with. Reath tbh is going for basic protection and style - its a fine line to where you lose the point of having a nice phone....

Got myself a case off of eBay for £2, it'll give me a bit of protection. Considering I've never had a case before it'll be better than nothing!

Now, got the phone and love it. Got pretty much everything setup but just wondering what settings people are using for Light Flow Lite? I had to turn on the alternative method which only gives me 3 colors which is a shame.

I've read something about GMail causing LFL to not work? I've got both apps but I only downloaded them today so I've got the latest versions.

I've got the FlexiShield case off mobile fun as I wanted something to protect the back and sides really well. As good as the skins are, they don't offer enough protection for my liking.

some people do not care about the style of their phone. i want a decent case with decent protection.

i have had several phones in the past which have been damaged or broken by even the smallest of falls. e.g. a samsung which broke after a 2-3 foot drop off a couch.

to me protection > style.

i had a htc one X before this for which i bought an otterbox defender (£30 ish).

this £3.80 case protects the back and sides just as well imo, plus it has a kickstand, it doesn't however have the screen protector layer. it's silicone and plastic are deployed in the exact same places it is on the otterbox defender. sure the silicone might be of a cheaper grade, but for £3.80, do I really care? The plastic will help it keep it's shape and stay in position.

i don't really care how "slim" the phone is either, being chunkier makes it easier to grip, e.g. if i had no case what so ever it would be a lot more slippy and harder to grip onto. i do not even believe this adds that much bulk to the phone either, the otterbox defender was probably twice the size, this case is perfectly sized imo. i have just compared it to my wifes nexus 4 with a s wave line case and there's maybe an additional 3mm (this is due to the plastic back with the kickstand on it). 3mm is not a huge difference imo compared to the protection it offers.

anyway people are different and they all have different needs and wants, and they all interpret data differently (Maslow's hierarchy of needs), therefore the perfect case for me, may not be the perfect case for you, but that still does not stop it from being the perfect case for me.

i do not have insurance, if i did, i probably would have no case at all, and just claim for a new one after an accidental fall every 6-9 months.

Right so think I've got LFL working and everything setup, I've got one final problem / gripe to contend with.

All of my contracts have imported off of my Gmail account which is great but none of them have any display pictures. I remember back in the day of my Galaxy S2 it use to link each contact with a FB contact and I'd get a display photo.

Then by the time it came round to me getting to S3 FB had changed something, but there was a work around and most of my contacts had a display photo. Now I can't see a way of linking a FB contact to a phone contact and no way of getting my contacts to have display pictures without manually adding them one by one which would be a nightmare!

Any ideas?

Facebook closed down the APIs that google needed as part of some tiff they had. There are some contacts apps that will do it but I have never tried any of them so cant really comment....

Just downloaded UberSync Facebook Contact Sync and that seems to have done the trick, it's missed about 3-4 out of 100 odd contacts and obviously can't do the ones that are spelt differently. No option to manually link though which is a bit annoying.
