***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

I have decided mine and the wifes iPhones 5s are going and being replaced with the Nexus 4

Where's the best place to buy? Direct from google.

What's the time from ordering to delivery?

Thanks

I've got the Snapdragon Battery Guru on mine and it keeps things ticking along nicely!! when on 3G it disables syncing for various stuff I don't want synced on my Data package, but back on Wi-Fi it turns everything back on and off it goes!!...

Strangely it uses less battery on Wi-Fi (syncing loads more stuff) than it does on 3G.

Off charge for 9(ish) hours, I never usually go to bed at night with it on any less than 45-50% battery, and that's with about 30-40% screentime, 3 to 5 calls Phone use, 10 - 15 photos Camera use on average!!

My understanding is wifi is significantly less power drain than 3g - something todo with the cost of keeping track of the signal - could be wrong but seems to be true for my phone at least. I use llama to ensure my wifi is off when I am not in the office or at home as I believe it uses power when hunting for a signal

Anyone else get this issue, when I get notified of an update on the forums I click the link and occasionally I just get a screen like this

Not seen it with Opera so I think it is a Chrome issue - not sure if it is N4 or all Androids?

How do you get notifications?

I have joined the Android Bandwagon and am now officially a NExus 4 owner. Already installed FX (FileManager) and a Custom Whatsapp. Google Plus Picsa integration is a PITA though. I can't link pictures in my Google Plus account and send it to mates via Whatsapp.

Yeah direct from Google is the only place you will get the n4 for at cost price. I hate apple myself but what's the reason you wanna change ? I would imagine going from a ip5 is a sideways step

Oh and I installed the Sohail busting trial of Cerberus too, but then I need to figure out how to install it at root level like in the Sheffield thief thread

It might look great, it might feel great but the choice to use glass on the back was bad because it's easily damaged... Fact.

The majority of people don't care whether you use a case or a screen protector because phones aren't style accessories, they're phones.

Spot on, I don't use a screen protector but if someone wants to it's up to them and isn't an insult to anyone else in fact it validates the designers existence since they like his/her work so much they want to protect it in a virtually invisible manner.

A phone is a tool not a fashion accessory, it indicates nowt.

Got a media devil screen protector today for the n4

Much better then the stock screen plastic thing :)

I had a media devil screen protector on my iPhone, it was great but what was even better was their customer service. I messed up the application big time as I have a tremor, and emailed them asking what the easiest application method was for when I ordered a new one. They sent me a new one free of charge! Definitely going to get one for my N4, just got a cheap one on there at the moment.

For anyone else who has shaky hands, this 'hinge' method works extremely well, as when you're applying the screen protector it's pretty much locked in the correct position by the tape:

The thing I find most disturbing about people using the shipping film as a screen protector is that you never got to do the best thing about buying a new gadget: peel it off.

I'd hardly call it disturbing, worrying that you even think it is :) from my view I found it a shame that they didn't put a protector on the device rather than something which was pretty good. For the record the one from ebay I got is pretty close to glass - not like it but makes me more comfortable with the phone, otherwise I would be more worried about the phone screen the whole time and again I appretiate this maybe me being odd but it would ruin the experience for me :)

I've used my device without a screen protector since November, I personally don't think it requires one.

However, i do see the need for some people to leave the standard protector on it, due to it having symbols reminding them where the volume and power button is.

I ordered from Google on Friday afternoon. Got a shipping email that night and TNT website stated out for delivery on Saturday  it didn't turn up but I am hopeful for delivery today.

Yes a suppose it is a side ways step, but there are a few reasons for my decision:

1. I hate iTunes with a passion. It simply either doesn't work, slow, or VERY limited in what it can do. No AC3 support in Windows, buggy using the Video or Remote iOS apps and it looses connection 10 minutes after a device goes to sleep. This is a known issue it seems on the Apple forums. Plus I have identified a second bug with remote covert art which is very annoying

2. No metadata available for media across Internet connections unless using Plex, something ATV doesn't support (unless you have a V2 and Jailbreak)

3. I can sell the ATVs and iPhones, replace them with Nexus 4s and Roku 3s and be quids in

4. My email is with Gmail, photos are already in Picasa with paid cloud storage and my music is synced with google music. Moving away from the dreaded iTunes will be very easy for us

5. I don't play games

6. My photos always seem to have the purple haze on them no matter where I seem to stand. Unfortunately the Nexus 4 camera isn't as good as the iPhones but it must be better to have lower quality with no purple than higher quality with

7. Jelly Bean has a lot more features than iOS, simple things like automatically updating apps

8. iMessage is great but I can't use iMessage on the desktop without a Mac (as no Windows client). Google talk does have a desktop client so I can 'txt' from my works PC :D

9. Fancy a new toy :D and I will love the extra screen size

My iPhone has a Media Devil screen protector which I love but I didn't think they made one for the Nexus so ordered an Expert Shield instead. Just read a few posts up that it seems Media devil do make one. Oh well, hopefully the expert shield one will be as good.

Decided to go with the Ringke Fusion case as I have a Belkin Clear View on the iPhone and quite like it. Love the bumper with rear plastic cover so hopefully the Ringke will be ok.
