***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

You only need a tethering deal with Iphones Proiverders can't tell on android.
This is the second time I've read this today. While they will likely not block tethering based on the usual browsing/IMAP/other services that aren't specific to desktop OSs, they may block certain types of traffic. For example, I can tether for browsing, my RSS feeds, etc, but as soon as I open the Mac App Store everything will be blocked completely.

In other words, you will probably get blocked for certain types of traffic, but a little common sense will tell you which ones they will probably be.

Unlimited everything for £15 a month on Virgin Mobile.
Far from it for data. The same 3.5GB FUP applies for data, no tethering allowed (the usual "it may work" applies). Their unlimited minutes and texts, I can't find anything however - everything mentioning them on their T&Cs page applies only to contracts started before 25th June 2012.

FUP = Fair Usage Policy. It's a sneaky way of saying 'yes we call the plan unlimited data but if you hog the network by downloading / uploading all the time we will restrict you'.

It throttles it after 3.5GB. Not stops it completely. Considering the unlimited minutes, its worth the £15. And also remember, Virgin is well known for knocking down the prices the moment you ring up. I didn't even ask but my first bill is £1 cheaper.

No one should be paying more than £15 for a sim only deal. I'm paying £10 on Voda for 600mins 2gb and unlimited text. You just have to fight for a deal with o2/voda and EE group. Giff gaff / 3 and virgin will normally give you a good deal off the cuff if you walk in or call up

i ordered the 3 £12.90 sim yesterday, should fit my usage, i never use the minutes all i use is data and texts even the texts now dont get used as much with things like whatsapp

its apple stuff they can track, my wife and I tether to android tabs, no issues
This is because they use a dedicated APN for tethering (purely for the purpose of detection). I'm not sure if Three use a separate APN for tethering though.

Tethering an Android tablet will work just fine because you're tethering an Android device. They can't tell the difference. My point is that it's not a case of detecting tethering, more detecting the type of traffic which suggests you are tethering.

Not denying that it is worth it if you want that many minutes. For data however, there are far better choices; it throttles to an unusable speed (384kbit/s).

Shame that Virgin has made their packages so unattractive recently!

has 3 got any FUP on data?
IIRC they throttle the top 5% of users, and they throttle P2P and tethering traffic between 3pm and midnight. This said, the throttling for tethering I presume will be limited to non-standard traffic (normal browsing and whatnot could very well be completely unaffected).

I've had this phone about 2 months now and I seem to be running into a problem with it.

Every so often the phone will not respond to the power on button, the LED flashes to indicate a new sms, email, etc but the screen does not switch on. I have to hold the power button down for 5-10 seconds, release it and then reboot the phone. Un-rooted and using stock android at the moment.

Anyone else encountered anything like this?

Flashed the new PA ROM which includes Halo. It's very handy and am impressed with the feature. PA goes from strength to strength!

Personally using the main version by moles, not the nightlies. Little reason to go for the nightlies as releases for PA are so frequent anyway, and they are only released when they at least work well enough to actually use.

nightlies are basically the stable version apart from the new features are in testing mode.

i use the nightlies and never had an issue with them but your mileage may vary.

if you cannot wait for the newest versions/features use the nightlies or alpha/beta builds, otherwise if you are patient then use the stable releases.

All true. But honestly, can anybody not wait for the alpha builds? It's usually only a few days! :)
