***The Official LG Nexus 4 Thread***

Don't get me wrong PA is a great ROM but that's a bit of a silly way of thinking. Just because something is the most popular doesn't mean it's the best.

Are the top10 best selling albums the best? No

Is Call of Duty the best PC game because it's the most popular? No
You've essentially done the same thing as Psycho Sonny though, just the other way round. There's nothing here to argue about, it's all a matter of personal opinion. What I will say, however, is that if you feel that some of the onscreen elements on Android are far too big (most of them are enormous, and rather silly), PA is the only ROM that fixes that without causing further issues (eg. with the Play Store). The ability to remove the navigation bar and use pie controls is also a bonus IMO (though gestures for hidden controls are almost always hateful - look at Windows 8 - PIE and LMT are really a couple of the very few exceptions I've seen). If it weren't for this, I'd be using CM still; I want to have only the options that I need, nothing more, nothing less. CM is pretty much the only ROM that does this for me.

With the ROM thing as a whole, for me it's the little tweaks that make the difference, not the huge changes. I like to stick with ROMs that change as little as possible in terms of the way in which Android works. I want to be able to create custom LED notifications, see the battery percentage etc, without the use of extra apps that cause more frustration than they ought to.

back on Paranoid Android, silky smooth and stable. got franco kernel on there as well with halfbreed colour profile.

set up the phone for now, will look through mycolorscreen's youtube channel to customise it more.

only problem i have for now is the lockscreen, i want security but the whole pin number unlock looks terrible. i might just do away with it and use widgets, security is easy enough to bypass anyway, all they would need to do is boot up in recovery and reset the phone surely.

The Nexus phone was born to run PA imo.

stock launcher is way too limited for me.

Totally agree on both points!

I already miss the dual pane in gmail & PIE on the HTC one, I tell you another thing I miss although the One has a tapered back I wish it had a tapered front too!

Strangely, I kinda still want a Nexus 4 despite running essentially the Nexus ROM on my One X.
The only thing I was disappointed by was the camera performance in comparison to the Xperia T when I tested one. It's a shame Sony haven't made a Nexus model as I'm sure it'd be fantastic in that regard.

At which point it wipes your data as well, I don't have a pin to stop someone using it if it's stolen that's what an IMEI block is for. It's there to stop people poking round my phone when they shouldn't be.

Might get one this year. Its surely there turn soon

I'd be all over it like a tramp on chips!
I played with an AOSP build on an Xperia Z the other day and that would be perfect for me if I'm honest, but I want something that is AOSP out of the box. I kbkw the majority of ROMS out there are good enough for daily drivers, but there always seems to be some sort of compromise somewhere with hacked or botched methods around problems in non official releases.

Funny thing is, the N4 uses a Sony BSI sensor

i bought mine from the play store, so not under any contract or through a provider.

can my phone be imei blocked? who would i phone to do so? or is it only an option if you bought it on contract? ive always assumed pay as you go or sim free phones cannot be blocked, but never really looked into it.

i dont want people snooping in my phone either, but it's usually always in my pocket when out and about, i only take it out to use it and then goes straight back into my pocket. only exception is the gym when it goes in the locker which is padlocked. at home i just leave my phone in my bedroom, again the only person who would have access to it really is my wife, who know's my pin anyway, therefore doesn't matter if it's locked or not.

long story short, i think i can live without the pin unlock, i have never lost a phone or had it stolen (touch wood) in over 10 years. i did drop one once but that was due to the combats having ridiculous pockets and i dropped everything out of them, thats why i ended up binning them, luckily it was noticed and picked up. i am very protective of my possessions, so i tend to look after them a lot more than the average person, which is probably why i have never lost a phone, even when completely blitzed out my face which was a common occurrence in my late teens and early twenties on a friday or saturday night.

i know people on the other hand who have lost say up to 3 phones a year when drunk.

Root. Install Cerberus. Hide it. Phone gets stolen? Chance you can track it down, otherwise you can remotely wipe it.

I guess it depends on what you are coming from, what you require from a device, and whether these benefits are worth £230 or so. The main ones are going to be:
  • far better camera;
  • better battery life (according to Anandtech's tests), will range from marginal to massive (light users won't see a huge difference, while those who watch videos will probably see a huge difference, nearly double due to the AMOLED display);
  • the slightly bigger display (AMOLED is personal preference) - if you plan to run the stock ROM, keep in mind that for the majority of the time, the Nexus 4 will have the software buttons at the bottom of the display, which take up a fair bit of space;
  • TouchWiz and its features if you are a fan;
  • removable battery;
  • expandable storage;
  • LTE

The other features such as the higher resolution and more powerful SoC won't really make a difference, for gaming you'll probably see a slightly lower frame rate, and the higher pixel density may not be very perceivable at all.

Wouldn't rule out the HTC One, as well as the stock Android versions of that and the S4 (if we get them?).

Best thing to do though, go into a store and check them out, see which one you like the most.

HTC is rumored to have a stock rom in the works for sense users. I would personally get the HTC One but there is a few things to keep in mind, firstly resell vaule is just so much better with Samsung phones. HTC is getting better with updates but Samsung released with 4.2.2 and HTC have been saying its due any week now for awhile. Removable battery, SD cards and better day light camera are on Samsung side.

Apart from the I feel the HTC One is much better phone, better screen, 32gb storage as standard, much better build, OIS means amazing night shots, Sense at this point is a lot better then Touchwiz ( apart from a few stupid things like the app drawer).
