*** The Official macOS Big Sur thread ***

It's slow downloading, very slow. It's not even reached 2Gb out of 12.1Gb yet and it's saying six hours to download. I'll just leave it running overnight.

Left mine downloading overnight but it won’t update, think it’s expecting a certain iboot version from a previous BigSur beta. Guess I’m waiting till Thursday.

I did the same and it's just finishing now, or at least it looks like it. The progress bar is almost full.

It's not had a previous install of Big Sur on it.
Maybe there’s a difference between public and dev beta, I was using the developer profile, will try the public tonight.

My concerns about the dock and the icons were unfounded, it's fine.

Looks like it’s a T2 chip firmware issue that’s preventing me updating, Apple hasn’t uploaded the new firmwares yet so the installer fails.

There’s a thread on the developer forum.

Total failure on my 2017 i7 iMac. I've had multiple reboots, the progress bar just sticking and it going all kinds of wrong. I'm now restoring my CCC backup from last night and hoping I'll get Catalina back up and working.

Damn not good man, hope you manage to recover.

I should be OK, the CCC backups are decent.

I wonder if the beta installer picked up the wrong version. When I ran it on my MacBook, I'm sure it said it was installing Big Sur but when I ran it on the iMac, it said Big Sur Beta. A friend also ran it today and his installed after a few attempts and then it offered another update to 11.0.1. My MacBook grabbed 11.0.1 straight away.

/edit - Yes, I'm back to Catalina. When I do a get info on the Big Sur install file it showed a creation date of September. That's very odd. Anyway, I won't be trying this again until the official release tomorrow.

Public release is 1800UTC, so I'm hoping my eBay purchase gets here before then so I can make a bootable USB drive and get going with Big Sur straight away.
