Where is a good place to get a longer handle for a Muhle R89?

My Muhle R89 is a great razor but the handle is definitely too short for me as I have huge hands :D

Connaught shaving is a good place to look (always worth checking their clearance/seconds stock too).

eBay can be good if you search "stainless steel razor handle". I can recommend the "Windrose" handles, I bought one of their heavy handles a few years ago and it transformed my 1940's Gillette Service Set Tech (my ever-day razor).

The sleeve of 100 Voskhod blades I bought a few years ago is finally running low so seeing as it's still my favourite blade, it's time I stock up on some more.

Ordered 150 blades (a sleeve and a half) for under £12 delivered, from Russia (where they're made). If I use no other blades, at a blade a week that's three years worth of comfortable, BBS shaves. Marvellous.

I bought 100 Gillette 7 O'clock yellows some years back, they lasted me nearly 3 years as well, cost me £12.99 from Shaving Shack, dread to think how much 3 years of Gillette Fusion blades would've costed me

@Maundie Yes, I sometimes wonder how much cartridge shaving would've cost me over the years that I've been wet shaving "properly" (i.e. a DE razor with shaving soap & brush).

Whilst I've spent more on shaving soaps and razors (I had/have a soft spot for vintage razors) than I needed to, they last for ages - I haven't bought any shaving soap for well over a year and have enough to last me at least the next 3 years!

Exactly, when I 1st started (over 7 years ago now) I spent quite a bit on a brush several soaps and every now and again I get another razor to test (or that's what I tell the Mrs)but honestly I can't even begin to imagine how much cartridge replacements would've cost (I still use a Mach 3 to have a speedy shave every once in a while but haven't bought refills for that in over 12 months).

Going to Vegas next week so no doubt I'll be in the Art of Shaving in the Venetian or Caesar's Forum shopping areas to have a little browse of their wares.

Recommendations for something to follow on from the Truffet & Hill Trafalgar cream which I have just about finished? Something I could get from the high-street would be ideal but don't mind ordering online if I must.

Been shaving with a DE for 3-4 months now and this was my first 'proper' cream.

After-shalve balm recommendations also welcome, been using something I was gifted yonks ago. So have nothing to compare it to.

St James of London due some quality creams.

Clarins aftershave balm is great, as is Baxter’s of California.

I'll second TOBS soaps and creams, and The Body Shop macca root shaving cream (although it comes in a tub like shaving soap usually does).

I have a tub of the straight "macca root shaving cream" and it's very nice to use.

If you're going to order over the internet then I recommend looking into OSP (Obsessive Soap Perfectionist), Phoenix & Beau and Mitchell's Wool Fat (i could go on but that'll do). All really good soaps (OSP's Neroli is a favourite of mine).

Edit: If you haven't tried it already, you should also pick up a Palmolive shaving soap stick, about 50p in Tesco. A tried and tested, no-frills brand that's been around for years and every wet shaver must have at least one in the cupboard. It's the law. :)

I tried a Silver Blue in the '40s Tech earlier for the first time in ages. In the same ball park as Feather for sharpness but noticeably smoother, I'd forgotten how much I like them.

These, I suppose

I tried them a few years ago. Not as good as the Feather for me, but blade choice is very personal.

When "Swedes" were available I preferred them to the Feather. They were a Gillette Platinum made is Sweden in the magic Gillette dispenser. They were smooth and sharp but disappeared from the market years ago.

If I found some now, of course, I might not prefer them to Feathers. As I get older (70 now) my beard gets whiter and tougher.

I got some of those from Art of Shaving last year, they're ok but I much prefer Feathers tbh.

Blades are very subjective and what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another, I've tried about 20 different blades now and always go back to Feather

Yea, everyone has their favourite blade and razor but I still like to mix it up a bit. I can get an excellent shave from any branded blade now and it's fun switching between them.

I'm disappointed with my current batch of Voskhods though. So far they've not been a patch on my last lot from several years ago, which were excellent.

I've also been disappointed with a batch of Voshkods I got last year. IIRC you sent me my first pack of them so that's interesting to hear :)

I wonder if they've changed something or perhaps there are a lot of fakes around. Either way, it's a shame. They used to be a really comfortable, pretty sharp blade but so far this batch has felt very dull in comparison.

Afternoon all. Turn another year older and want to make the move towards wet shaving. Can anyone suggest a reasonably good and affordable razor and brush to start with? Ideally synthetic if possible. Hear the Edwin Jagger name bandied around quite a bit.

Got some shave cream from Triumph & Disaster, a New Zealand brand, on the way

This is a good set to start off with, you could also change the brush to a Pure Badger or SilverTip Badger brush for more
