***The Official Manly Shaving Thread***

Alright all, wasn't sure where I should post about shaving then found this thread..

Since starting my new job I have needed to be clean shaven so I shave twice a week with a shaver from Harry's... I've always used the electric ones but my boss said it's not smooth enough so that's why I've gone to the normal shaver, However, everytime I shave I start bleeding in certain places around my neck, what do you guys use to stop the bleeding? as I find myself wiping it off every 30 seconds with a wet wipe

Any tips appreciated

Good prep, a shaving brush (look up Semogue and Omega brushes, you might want a synthetic one because they take less looking after) and proper shaving soap.

Then learn which direction the hair grows on those problem areas, and avoid shaving against the direction of growth.

Also, make sure you keep a light touch on the razor and don't over-shave.

Edit:
Get yourself an alum block too. Great for sealing little nicks quickly post-shave. Styptic pens too, although they are generally for bigger nicks.

Deisded our of boredom at home to try Harry's Razor thing. Dear God its awful, like how do they sell them awful. Its completely burchered my neck ill have to leave for a couple of days to settle.

My Gilette Fusion is broken and I'm now on my last head so it's time to look for a replacement. So spec me!

Wet shave, multiple blades per head, heads commonly available, preferably not Gilette, and preferably not a plastic body.

I don't shave for a hobby and there's no way I'd go back to a mach 3 or fusion after swapping to a merkur safety razor. It's just as easy and fast once you've practiced a bit and I definitely get a better shave. And blades are cheap as chips. Spend 25 quid or so on a decent razor, learn to wet shave then your all set.

It's very true loads of people make it a hobby and end up spending triple on soaps, brushes etc. than what they might save on blades. It's entirely possible to get away from Gillette without doing that though.

I turned 40 in January and have never really had to shave more than once a week, but the last few years it has gone nuts, face, ears, nose, everywhere I don't want hair. The Gillette is just easier.

Even if you use regular in a can gel/ foam, still using a DE handle and good blade is a hell of a lot better and cheaper.

After using a DE I was a bloodied mess! My girlfriend wanted to take me to hospital.

It's really not worth the time and effort to get good at using random shaving stuff.

It's one of those things that is not worth my time getting good at! My opinion may change when I can grow a proper beard though

Try shaving your head with a DE once was enough for me  . Went back to Gillette for my head and bit of face that shows around my beard , Boots do offers couple of times a year 2 x Fusion 5 pro-glide power 4pack power blades for £15 I just stock up when they do

Seriously with a decent DB89 blade you don't need multiple blades.

I moved from multi-blade to a DB89, bought a load of blades of different types and there are some I now favour whereas other blades just don't work with my face.

Loved the Feather Platinums and the Platinum Persona blades.

If you throw the blade around badly then you will get cut. The corners of some blades can do this. I found that foams and soaps didn't work for me - the best cut without bloodying myself is the Loreal Men Expert Baberclub protecting shave cream. It doesn't foam and givens a close cut. The mrs likes the smell too.

Admittedly I'm not shaving my head lol.
