***The Official Manly Shaving Thread***

A small nick this morning. Got cocky. How best to shave right under the nose?

I don't like this area very much  I just find that everything goes smoothly here if you have a perfect lather. With a perfect lather it should just glide. I normally just shave down, then I'll shave up the second time.

Not sure if I'm doing that right though :p

Best way is to just be very careful. I go with the grain on first pass and then across in both directions on 2nd. I tend to only use a small area of the razor though rather than all of it when you scrap most other parts of your face.
I get much better results when I use pre-shave cream/balm.

I have always shaved WTG. I only use one pass. Am I missing out? Should I also shave XTG and ATG?

The issue with shaving under the nose is mainly to do with being able the position the razor properly right under the nostril; the razor head is bigger than the Mach 3 cartridge, so it's more difficult to get close enough.

I push my nose up with my other hand, while pulling down my top lip, mouth slightly open. I don't really know how I came up with that but I'm guessing others don't do that, since well nobody has said anything. I might have just made it up or maybe read it on B&B and/or seen it in a yt video.

You should be fine with a DE razor. Re lather and off you go again. With practice you'll work out the differences over a Mach 3.

One thing I read on a shaving guide was to leave the upper lip area until the very end, that way the shaving cream/soap has the most time to take effect. I personally find the chin area the most difficult part to shave, particularly when you have to adjust the angle of the razor to go from the chin down to the neck. If I cut myself, that's always when I'll do it.

I find the jaw line and chin the hardest to get a very close shave. Bottom of my neck can get sore sometimes - but overall, 3 passes give the best results if you have a thick beard.

I really struggle with going ATG on all of my top lip area, so I settle with WTG only. On the edges XTG.
For the nose area I can get the sides of the nose by pulling the skin tight, and for the base nose area..... I still have a Gillette Mach 2 I use for that - the head is really small. May be I have a small nasal cavity, but I'm damned if I can fit a DE in there for the job.

Payday! What better way to celebrate than to spank a load of cash on manly shaving items.

I was googling the other day and found a dark beer shave cream, can't for the life of me replicate the result. Has anybody ever encountered it? I'd like to give it a go. I'm also open to any other suggestions around shave soaps or creams, I feel like expanding my collection now I've been going for a few months.

I'm also going to consider stocking up on Polsilvers, after trying the selection pack these seem to offer the best results for me.

Any other suggestion on thing to treat myself to are gratefully welcomed.

Can anyone recommend a medium size Best Badger brush? Ideally looking to spend not much over £30. Was set on an Edwin Jagger but some reviews said it was more like Pure Badger. Completely new to DE shaving by the way. Cheers

I appreciate that. It is awkward.

Hey guys,
I'm looking to get into using a DE razor. I recently got some Amazon gift cards. I don't want to spend too much but what are good products I can get? I've just been using an electric shaver and it irritates my skin way to much.

To repeat some very good advice passed on to me; do read the OP. Everything you need to know is there :D

I'm thinking of going for the light stubble look, nothing too heavy but I will need a decent machine, any recommendations please?
