***The Official Manly Shaving Thread***

So just finished a shave with the astra superior platinum.

My initial thoughts.

While they provide a very close clean shave and smooth experience the gap in sharpness when compared to the feathers is noticeable, more so with a thicker growth but to a point that means you have to use a little more effort in the shave; With that being said the fact they are not as an aggressive blade means that in my harder to shave more sensitive areas, my chin and parts of my lower jawline, I can apply more force and negate the need to think so much about the multiple contours and growth directions.

My experience with the Israeli made blades is that they are a marry of the astra and the feather, closer to the feathers sharpness but with a smoothness akin to the astras meaning a little more care to be taken than in regards to astras but the confidence of knowing I will get any hair in the area with as few a parse as possible almost like the feathers.

Obviously a few more shaves will be needed as today I had a good 5 days of thick growth and it was quite a challenge for a new blade though they performed well none the less.

Thanks for posting that; very useful. I am still tentative with the Feather blades. I would love to be able to DE shave with the same degree of nonchalance that I did with my old Mach 3, but it's still early days.

The first and only rule with feathers is respect them at all times, they are a razer produced by a company that produces surgical blades. Nuff said.

I must add im using all these blades in a merkur 37c slant bar.

I often swap out my more expensive stuff for my Proraso items because they are just very, very good.

Same here! They are cheap out in Italy too so if you know anyone going ask them to grab you some.

I'd asked that question on the last page. My parents are going. Other than Prorasso is there anything else I should be asking them to look out for?

that's stuff is great really soothes when shaving & cools the skin down after must be the eucalyptus in it.

Tried the Astra blade this morning; it's definitely less sharp than the Feather. Still gave a nice shave though.

The Proraso creme is amazing though - a lovely tingle and the smell is incredible. Very happy with that purchase indeed :)

Yep, the Astras which come in the white/green paper packaging are basically Feathers but turned down a notch or two. Very easy to shave with, not as close but also not as aggressive. A pretty happy medium.

I'm currently working my way through some Proraso Blue shaving cream. It smells amazing but I do miss the menthol hit from the Green.

Been thinking of getting me a somewhat decent Razor, brush and cream,..these normal razors and sensitive shaving creams just dont cut it for me (pun intended)

Anyone suggest a somewhat decent,But not breaking the bank?

£30-50 any good sort of a budget for all 3?

Check out the OP, good advise in there and some really good starting points.
