*** The Official Microsoft Surface Thread ***

Broadwell gpu is rumoured to be 40% faster for same power draw. 14nm shrink and the CPU will get a boost as well.
If it gets anywhere close to 40% I think that should run any game, out there, ok top games in low settings but that's fine. It's one of those wait and see how it unfolds and wait for some real world tests.

ive been hearing about Broadwell for 2-3 years now. Will it finally come out?

Of course you have and off course it will. Intel work on a predictable tick tock cycle. We should start seeing Broadwell q4 (in time for holidays (Christmas, with the rest coming out early 2015). Just because you hear about it, doesn't mean it's coming out soon. we know what Intel are naming way in advance. For example we know.
After Broadwell is skylake
After skylake is cannonlake

So not odd at all hearing the name so early on.

They all work on each other.
There was no need to upgrade from cover 1 to cover 2. It was not a surface pro 2 cover. It was simply an updated cover that works on any surface. Even the old covers will work on surface pro 3

Yes I know they work (or I assumed they would with 3 but I haven't actually checked if the pins match) but I do think you're rather getting away from the point that they've clearly designed each new keyboard to go with the new Surface model (how many people would want to use the smaller keyboards with the Pro 3?).

Especially with them changing sizes it feels beyond a little cheap to sell them separately (ignoring how intrinsic it is to the Surface in the first place).

With the pro 3 not many due to size difference, this is unlikely to happen again. yes the pins match, they're fully comparable.

What you seem to miss is many people have keyboards, why would I want to be forced to buy another. The pro/pro2 did not have a keyboard clearly designed for them.
They should do what they did with surface RT. Which was two packages, one just tablet, the other tablet and keyboard which was about £20 cheaper than buying separately.

Then you have the issue of which one do you include, or do they do 3+ packages.
On 10.6 surfaces you have type/touch v1, type/touch v2 and power keyboard. People may not be bothered about back lighting and do want to save some money by getting v1.
Or you buy pro 3 then upgrade to pro 4 and you have to get another keyboard. Even though you already have one.

Looking to pick up a surface 2 pro tomorrow. Was originally trying to find a 64gb version but might aswell splash some cash for a 128gb.

Pro 3 looks nice but an i3 and nice screen is not really worth it compared to an i5 imo.

I bought the Pro 2 purely down to screen size, the Pro 3 is too much of a laptop size to cart around on a building site :)

I don't disagree with their pricing points for each configuration as it's only a rip off if you're looking at it as just a tablet (and if you are then you don't need a Surface Pro) but they really should include the keyboard...

I was going to say the same until I looked at the Macbook Air... The "same" spec (8GB, 256GB SSD, i7) is only £1209... They have reduced their prices significantly recently!

The i5 is better value IMO though.

I thought it unlikely they'd bring out a different size Surface, so never say never.

Which may have been a valid concern were the Surface an established product with a large install base but given the Surface as a concept doesn't work half as well without the keyboard it's still a mistake not to include it and harms the price comparison when you have to add on an extra £100.

Depends on how you want to word it, specifically the Pro never had a keyboard designed for it but certainly the first Surface including the Pro did, then they had another for the Surface 2 and 3. In every respect the Surface and the keyboard have been designed to go together but just not when it comes to selling them.

On 10.6 surfaces you have type/touch v1, type/touch v2 and power keyboard. People may not be bothered about back lighting and do want to save some money by getting v1.

They no longer sell the first version, so you can't save money unless you're buying second hand which is fine but doesn't really work well for your argument that the keyboards are unique snow flakes and not tied directly to a Surface release.

When/if they release the next version of Surface you may be proven right but regardless Microsoft aren't doing themselves any favours right now by splitting them.

Yeah, they really should be pushing them out with the keyboard included, especially as they keep going on about how its a replacement for an MBA, the MBA wins hands down because it comes with a bloody keyboard, all day, every day...
I would rather have, and not need, than need and have to pay for the privilege..

I get that, but the MBA can be cheaper as its made with a trashy display and no touch inputs, or stylus.

MS could make the SP3 cheaper, or bundle the keyboard. But I doubt people who require OSX are suddenly going to swap.

How many people actually "require" oSX though, to be fair if you want a semi decent ultrabook where else do you look?
The same could be said for Surface users, are they going to swap just for the sake of a keyboard...

I guess its hard for MS to sell a product that nobody else has. On one hand you could say the iPad ships without a keyboard.

I'd also appreciate it if MS bundled the keyboard, but I still can't see how it would stop anyone who wanted one buying it.

You are most likely correct that MBA customers mostly want Facebook and web browsing, and OSX or Windows are both fine.

The Dell XPS 13 would be my choice for a direct MBA comparable ultrabook.

Similar build quality, just different materials. Has a better screen.

any issue with getting a US version of the Surf Pro 3? I'm looking at the 128gb version and might be able to get a US version or is it best to wait for the UK version?

No issues. The power supply takes a standard figure of 8 cable so you can swap it for a UK one very cheaply.

Keyboard layout is different, (smaller enter key, moved @, no £ etc). But it is perfectly fine if you can touch type.

I'm pretty sure the warranty is global provided MS sell the product in your country. So they might not be able to help until they ship them in the UK.

I returned a USA keyboard to the UK and they replaced it with a UK version :p.

All MS have to do is offer the keyboard bundled for £10 less than it retails for separately. A slight saving for getting the bundle but still have the option to save a ton and get it without completely. Easy.
