*** The Official Microsoft Surface Thread ***

Probably yes, I've already got mine on pre-order but given some of the stories coming out about the i7 variants waiting for a f/w fix or h/w revision might not be a bad idea.

I'm going to USA next May for a conference. And I really want a SP3.

Is it worth waiting until next May when I'm in the states to buy a Surface Pro 3?

I don't need one immediately.

I would guess the Pro 4 might have been annoucned by then and they should hopefully get the next range of Intel processors. It might be that the Pro 3 has been reduced a bit by then or that you would be better off waiting a few months for the Pro 4

I quite fancy this device even though it is much more expensive than I have ever invested in a pc, laptop or tablet device. My Dell XPS laptop gave up earlier in the year (mobo failure) so I bought an LG Gpad to replace it but whilst is quite a nice device it gets fatiguing to use for long periods, doesnt really work that well for any production ie CBA typing long replies in forums or spreadsheet modelling.

I guess the question for me is what sort of life expectancy would you put against a Surface Pro 3 before you had to replace it? are there people out there still happily using the 1st iteration (with all its failings) or is this another purchase that you have to depreciate over 24 months?

I really miss having a laptop but dont want to go back to balancing a 15", 2kg noisy, hot slab of plastic on my lap and I won't be investing into Apple. So this Surface 3 Pro might be just the thing if I can get over the initial outlay + the keyboard!

Ultrabook?

Does anyone know of it is possible to physically swap the keys around on the type cover?

I'm hoping to pick this up cheap and swap the keys.

I know it's only cosmetic but it will bug me.

I still use the first iteration and plan to for at least 2 more years!

Same sort of price. Less flexibility. But, I hear you and will take a look.

edit - PC ***** have the entry model at £649 less £100 cash back so £549 - tempting :)

Well given you dont want a Mac or a 15" screen and the weight but arent sure if a Surface is what you want then an Ultrabook would be a semi obvious choice...

Its bad enough that in most of the comparisons they show a keyboard and dont bundle one, to not bundle the pen would be a real kicker..

I wonder how many people are actually put off by the fact it doesnt come with a keyboard yet they say it'll replace your laptop...

Thank you, I've got the surface pro 3, black keyboard and stylus in the basket to preorder at the moment so wanted to make sure!

I thought it would be included when they first started showing it off and advertising it, still think it should be really!

It should, as you say all of the adverts have the keyboard on show, they say its to replace a laptop, all of the laptops I have ever used had a keyboard...

It should be an option. Laptop has a keyboard attached, so if you buy another you need a new keyboard, already have a surface you don't. So it makes sense to sell a starter pack at a discount and also surfaces without a keyboard.

When surface pro 4 comes out, will you really want to pay another 150+ for a keyboard you already have.

I'm thinking of buying a Surface Pro 3 as my main computer. At home, I would like to hook it up to an external monitor (or even two), being able to use both the Surface's screen and the external monitors at the same time. Would this be possible?

Thanks
