*** The Official Microsoft Surface Thread ***

So I picked up a Touch Cover 2 for my mk1 Surface RT after the first one died in milk.

It's far better for typing on. Picks up typing responses from the edge of the keys, and the backlight is fantastic in poor light. I only use it on 1/3 brightness. It feels more rigid that the first one, in a good way.

Managed to get a new one for £75 on ebay. Was an opened box one, but with 'no use'. Can't tell if it's been used if it's had any at all.

Very happy with it.

Anybody with a surface 3 that has had an ipad?

Just wanting to know how they compare?

Is the surface as responsive and as seem less as an ipad, do apps and software load quickly? Does the size feel better or worse?

I really fancy a surface 3 but I bought a galaxy note 8 a while back and I kept reverting back to the ipad so just not wanting to make the same mistake

If anyone wants to play with thr Surface Pro 3, go to Harrods, they've got it on display in the tech department.

Played with it for a bit and it seems really nice, slightly too big for a tablet, but big enough to do actual work on it.

Looking at the Surface Pro 3 and wondering whether to go for the i3 or pay the extra £200 for the i5...what do you think.

Currently using a mid 2011 macbook air with an i5....how would this compare performance wise?....I am doing light dev work and the macbook is fine for performance, but want to make sure I have something comparable.

i5 two reasons:

1) 64 GB storage is not workable

2) In heavier usage tasks the i5 has longer battery life.

mSD cards are good enough to add storage but if you are used to an i5 MBA then an i3 SP3 wont cut it, no idea why they decided to make it unless they were trying to hit a certain price point so just needed a device that would do the job.
i5 is the one to go for, 8gb and the extra storage it'll the most popular choice.
Only reason I'm going for the i7 was the deal I got and I didnt know of the throttling issues that seem to be appearing now....

Thanks for the tip off! the GF and I went there yesterday to have a look. She was looking for a small laptop device and it sold her...

We ordered the i5 256GB version last night so hopefully it'll be here next week (slow mail from Canada. :(). I'm not sure who's more excited...:p The pen was the thing that really sold her, it's pretty impressive.

Quick question regarding memory cards. She's looking to put a 128GB card in for extra space, there is no throughput limit so I'm guessing the faster the better? In which case I'm thinking the Sandisk Ultra 128GB is the best option?

EDIT: Or is it worth going for the smaller Extreme Plus 64GB which is substantially faster?

I think the Sandisk is about the only 128GB version at the moment?

You can get much faster (on paper) 64GB versions.

Depends on what you want to store really. 256GB is a decent starting point though.

Yep, I realised that afterwards..!

What cards are everyone else using?

Not sure exactly what it will be used for but probably either videos or backup storage for some photos, although 64GB won't go far for that...

Using a 64GB Scandisk Class 10 myself, originally had it in my Surface RT before I got the 256GB Pro 3.

Class 10 means nothing to me coming from a photography background... It basically just means it's not achingly slow... :p

Ultra? Pro? 30MB? 40? 80? All are class 10 IRIC. With SanDisk they clearly say what the card is, unlike cheaper brands.

(Sorry if I'm sounding an ****, just don't see class "type" being any use nowadays, especially on a more technically oriented forum like this.)

I'm going to USA next May for a conference. And I really want a SP3.

Is it worth waiting until next May when I'm in the states to buy a Surface Pro 3?

I don't need one immediately.
