*** The Official Microsoft Surface Thread ***

All the atom stuff I've used has been flawless.
The Asus T100 makes me question why I have a Surface 2.

I had the very first asus transformer and the form factor was brilliant, just that googles productivity apps were so far behind what would have made it useful. I will look into that, could be ideal for her. Thanks

Wondering if you guys can help me with a Surface Pro (1st gen). My parents are currently on holiday and just skyped me to inform me that their Surface has stopped working. Whilst updating my father obviously decided to switch off the tablet. :D

Now when they boot up the tablet the Surface screen pops up for a few seconds with the loading circle animation and then after that it the screen goes black and the backlight flashes on and off periodically. I've managed to get them to boot into the UEFI settings by holding volume up and power but to be honest would have no idea where to go from there so I've just decided to switch it off.

They said an LED was flashing orange off the screen. I couldn't see it on Skype but I don't know if that's the HDD indicator or something? I realise I'll probably have to wait 'til they get back to really do anything about it but may as well start collecting useful information.

There's no HDD light. Some sort of indicator light near the front facing camera perhaps?

Odds are it's a hardware fault, possibly the backlight. Other possibility is a firmware update got interrupted. Microsoft update everything for the Surface Pro via Windows update, including EFI.

It seems to have been triggered by dad shutting it down mid update - perhaps more likely the firmware than hardware given this? During the Surface screen the backlight does not behave abnormally, it's after that.To resolve this what is the best course of action? Is there a 'proper' BIOS where I can enable safe mode? I know very little about software unfortunately.

Not sure when, but the fitbit app got a massive update and is now amazing. Can also now sync on Bluetooth.
The layout is apparently coming to an updated wp8.1 app soon.

Edit - youtube review said it had Bluetooth syncing without dongle, but app days you need dongle. Unless we are behind the us release. Nope defiantly has Bluetooth support on the review.

Think I'll be getting rid of my Surface 2 RT soon.
I'm just getting depressed by how wasted it is, more on the games side. Android and iOS are literally laughing at Windows Store.

I mean look at how many *proper* games are going to them? They've just got the new Tales games (Both!) of them, Androids just gotten KOTOR. They've got a plethora of Square Enix games on!

And Windows Store, which has the potential to have the best eco system is literally pathetic. I can't handle it anymore.

My Surface 3's staying, I've got myself a powered USB hub coming, so that'll solve the limitations of the device for me. Steam Streaming and it being X86 means I can play anything I want on it too.

Pro 3 is still newish.

Yes, it seems the just replace the CPU for the same previous price.

Still loving mine.

Thanks :)

I've liked the look of the PRO series for a while now and recently bought the Linx 10.1 Windows 8.1 tablet, and I absolutely loved full windows on a large tablet, so made my mind up to sell my desktop PC and buy the top PRO tablet.

I'll double check if the PRO 4 is due when I've sold my PC parts just in case :)

I honestly don't know about their timing, from memory they don't really have a set month they release on, Pro 3 came out pretty fast after pro 2 from memory, but I think that was mostly due to the fact that in the larger design they could address lots of problems in the previous 2.
