Trig...

Do you not find the fan kicking in for no reason even if its just sat on your desk idling?

Thats pretty much the same reason, because I could, will have to invest in the dock at some point, but when I don't have the monitor due to space atm... i've got a USB 3.0 hub for the meantime so i can use the 3d mouse and hdd, looks nice and tidy though!

No, but then mines not really idle, the only thing that seems to kick the CPU when I'm not doing anything is ****ing flash player in browsers all the b'stard time..
Roll on ditching flash in Win10...

Have any of you insured your Surface Pro?

I'm just about to pick one up from the purple people but don't want their policy as I have never known it to be good value, however I'm concerned about damaging such a high ticket item. Its a company purchase.

I'd be willing to bet they only finished it because it was a crowd funded project. It's been clear for some time that RT was going to have a short life span. If they'd scrapped the project a year ago everyone would have been entitled to a refund. Finishing the project was no doubt the cheaper option.

That's not how crowd funding works. You wouldn't get anything back, that's the risk with putting money into crowdfunding.

:( why still no news on cherry trail tablets.

Stuff Cherry, I want Broadwell Core M rather than Atom...

It's like 4 times the price. We already now about them(unles spur waiting for surface, then you might as well wait for skylark which is out end of year), they've been shown off, release dates and prices.

I'm not interested in M. Slight step back in performance from current range, and current range just isn't quite powerful enough. But better battery and fatness.

No, you reckon thats what they'll come in at?
What is the cost difference between that and an Atom?

Off course. The 11" version of ones that have been announced are around £1200. They are not comparable to atoms in the slightest, not even the same sport, let alone ball park. You are looking at i5 type prices. as that's what they essentially are. They are only marginally worse than the i5s in surface pro 3, but much longer battery life and don't require fans, although I expect a 50/50 split on fans.

Core m prices to OEMs $281, atom on the other hand $30-40 depending on model.

On top of that Intel are doing large cost rebates on atom for OEMs to remain competitive against arm.

Meh but Atoms are poop, or at least were the last time I tried them (Samsung Netbook thing)...
If they are decent enough speed these days then in a Mini they'd be acceptable, as long as they run full fat Windows...

Depends what you mean by good, for general tablet things that you would do on android/iPad they are fine. If you are expecting to run PhotoShop with huge files then no.
And yes atom runs full windows.
