*** The Official Microsoft Surface Thread ***

Agreed about the Pro variant, I don't understand who Microsoft are aiming it at. It's pretty obvious they see it as a content creation device because they've not been that subtle about it, except there are so many compromises involved that I really can't see how it could ever succeed at this task. The screen is too small to be using to create content on for any length of time, the keyboard cover is a compromise over a 'real' keyboard, and it has a tiny trackpad. Like the poster above, I just can't see a reason to buy a Surface Pro 2 over a MacBook Air.

The Dock looks very clunky as well.

The pro 2 and its price point is a joke. You are better off buying a macbook air for similar price!

With a worse resolution screen, no touch support, no active digitiser.

Plus Apple support for Windows was not amazing last time I owned a MBA it took an age to get full Windows 8 drivers.

The Pro is Ultrabook hardware, which costs Ultrabook prices.

And thats coming from a guy who has used windows since 3.1 so dont call me an apple fanboy even though all my pc's at home are running windows OS!!

i just feel that for the price point of the pro 2, you can grab yourself a macbook air thats lighter then a pro 2.

Thoughts?

Not really, you can't directly compare the two.
The Surface 2 Pro has a far superior screen (IPS panel) and also a higher resolution (though I think 1080p is overkill on a 10" screen but people are all about the screen dpi these days).
It is a fully capable touch screen tablet, and it can also attach a keyboard to allow it to become a ultrabook.

Tbh, both are good devices serving different people/markets.

I see the Surface 2 Pro finally becoming the business tool it should have been.
Though, it is going to have some stiff competition in that area from Lenovo's Thinkpad Yoga.

i'd agree about the resolution but touch support you dont neceariy need especially for desktop apps.

Price needs to be cheaper!

What are your most used apps and games on RT?

Internet Explorer
Outlook
Netflix
Metrotube
Winbeta
Fruit Ninja
Photoshop Express
Dredd vs Zombies
& a bunch of other stuff but I would need to go find it to see what they are

The Mrs. has pretty much taken ownership of it in favour of her netbook.

The kids have got various games on it as well, both set up as child accounts.

I'd love it to be cheaper, but its cutting edge, I guess all the parts are costly MS could make tge Pro it cheaper but it is aimed at professionals.

The Surface 2, will need a price drop to really surge forward. I suspect some kind of offer will "surface" before Christmas, or if Apple introduces a new iPad.

I love my Surface Pro.

It is a tablet and a laptop and does everything I could want.

It goes everywhere with me along with my iPad mini.

I shall be preordering tomorrow as well and I can't wait to get my hands on it In a month but at the same time whoever buys my original surface pro will be getting an amazing device and I assume the eBay price will be about £500 so a bargain as well!

Anyone planning on selling their surface RT, might be a sensiable option for me till wither i get the money for pro 2 or wait for surface 2 LTE. Its a sensiable option but not the fun option.

Really can't see why anyone would buy one of these over the Lenovo Yoga 2, which has better specs, better larger screen, more storage, a more established manufacturing brand, cheaper and acts as a tablet/laptop convertible.

It's a direct competitor and is better in pretty much every single way?

Lots of reason, its not a tablet. Its 3.1lbs + 15.5mm thick.

Why the hell would you buy one, it just isnt a tablet and all though it folds back, realisticlaly stil cant be used as a tablet.

So yeah pretty much worse in every aspect that mattters.
It also doesnt have more storage, both have upto 512GB.

Can you even reach the centre of a touch screen on a 13" screen. I think 11.6" is the biggest realistic size.

And no it is not in direct competion. As it isn't a tablet.

According to reviews it works perfectly well as a tablet. Surface 2 Pro just seems so expensive when compared.

It's actually very light considering its 13inch.

It also doesn't have an active digitizer which the Surface has. The Thinkpad Yoga however does have an active digitizer and is 12.5 but is still noticeably bigger than a Surface.

Personally the Yoga is an ultrabook first and/with tablet features/abilities second, whereas the Surface is the other way round.

No it wo nt work perfectly well as a tablet. Think about it for a secon. It fits the same in to a smaller space, that comes with a premium.
Holding it as a tablet, its to thick, to heavy and thumbs will not reach the middle.
It is in no way direct competion, it isa very different device. Its a laptop with a touch screen not a tablet.

The yoga 2 pro starts at $1099
So surface pro 2 + power cover is the same price.well $1098
