*** The Official Microsoft Surface Thread ***

According to reviews it works perfectly well as a tablet. Surface 2 Pro just seems so expensive when compared.

It's actually very light considering its 13inch.

The Yoga's over 1000 pounds though, whereas the Surface is expected to be 720 (sorry that should be 820 as you'll need to buy a touch or type cover as well) upwards depending on storage space.

You do however get more configuration options with the Yoga, processor, ram, storage.

No it wo nt work perfectly well as a tablet. Think about it for a secon. It fits the same in to a smaller space, that comes with a premium.
Holding it as a tablet, its to thick, to heavy and thumbs will not reach the middle.
It is in no way direct competion, it isa very different device. Its a laptop with a touch screen not a tablet.

No it's an ultrabook that converts to a tablet, no matter how you swing it that is what it does. Literally all the hands ons say it feels sleek in tablet mode.

The Surface 2 Pro works better as a tablet maybe, and the Yoga 2 works way better as an ultra book. However they still both aim to fulfil the exact same roles.

The Yoga 2 Pro is priced at $1099, how can that possibly = £1000??

No they don't fill the exact same roll, one is ultra book with tablet compatibility although rubbish compatibility. The other is a tablet with resonable ultra book compatability.

You go get a 13.3" tablet and see if your thumbs reach the middle, unless you have giant hands they wont. Then weight and thickness is rubbish as well.

1.9lbs vs 3.1lbs.

It's 12.5" not 13.3". Plus because it's larger it's going to feel pretty light for it's size. Either way not going to bother arguing about it, we disagree with each other and your very obviously completely blinded by your Microsoft bias.

Plus it's 0.55inches thick vs 0.61inches... the difference is minimal.

Lenovo yoga 2 pro is 13.3
Lenovos own website

DAZZLING 13.3" MULTIMODE ULTRABOOK™
Feel light for it's size? Means nothing, its heavy and will feel heavy when using it as a tablet, it's far from usable as a tablet, except for quick oocasional use.

Well it should, you wont reach the middle of the screen when in tabt molde, 3.1 (starting weight for base model) will feel heavy for tablet use and 1.5cm is pretty darn thick.
Combine that with its not cheaper like you seem to think.

Starting price $1099
Surface pro 2 $899 + keyboard wich is $99 upto $199 for the power touch cover)

Its a differen't market, its aimed at ultrabooks.
Where surface is aimed at people who want an everything device. Itscery much a tablet with added features.

It's much better for the money. The base model comes with a 3200X1800 IPS screen, which is what 4x the resolution of the Surface Pro 2?

And colour balance, viewing angles etc? Its 2.7x more pixels
And such a high res is pretty darn pointless, other than for fact sheets.
Its certianly not much better for the money if you want a tablet. You would be absolutly mad to get one, if you want a tablet.

I guessed the price for the yoga 2 pro buy lookin at the price of the current yoga 13. And if you look on Lenovo's website you'll see it's about £1000. (though they have an offer/discount on ATM). Basically we get shafted for it price wise in the uk.

Hhhhmmm, Looking at prices on eBay I might manage £550 after fees for selling my Pro 128 + Touch Cover.

New 256GB one is £1038 + another keyboard (£ 109.99)

So £1147.99 or £599.99 over my current setup.

Not sure this is great value.:(

I'm now seriously considering picking up an original Pro second hand as a laptop/desktop replacement since the new dock works with it - it should handle Lightroom, Office, video encoding, the odd indie game and emulators. I've always wanted to try my hand at sketching using a stylus. Note taking is just the icing on the cake.

I'd wait to see what reviews say about the dock before making a purchasing decision based around it. Looking at the pictures it just shoves connectors into the Mini DisplayPort, USB 3.0 and power. The stuff like the audio and ethernet are attached as USB devices inside the dock.

It looks like you have to sit the Surface in and then push the two sides into it so that the ports connect, it's not the elegant click-in that you got when docking a ThinkPad for example.
