Wonder how long those Type Cover colour options will stay at 'Coming Soon'. Last time I saw that it was the splash screen for the original Surface Pro and that stayed up for a good 4/5 months!

I use a black cover right now, and I often think a bit of colour would be nice, but I don't know how effective the backlight would be on the brighter colours?

I imagine it will be fine. If there is low enough ambient light for the backlight to be useful then the face of the keys isn't going to be illuminated. As long as there is sufficient contrast it'll work.

Why not get a nexus 7 that's even more cheaper and has better support for apps?

I went for the Nexus 7 purely because of the wireless charging convenience. Hardware wise it's superb, but Android is a mess and the user interface is horribly toy like, I really missed the Metro UI my phone has.

The first W8 tablet with wireless charging and the N7's getting sold.

Well, I caved in and bought a 256GB Pro 2 and Type cover 2.

I already had an original Surface RT and have used it for work as well personal use.

However, at times I have needed additional tools like Visio, SAP and the need to run VMs which meant the RT couldn't fully replace my laptop. The lack of VPN support was also a downer. So always had to a full fat Windows Laptop as backup which was always so heavy.

So I have gone Pro to ensure that I can run any software and also have the ability to run VMs to replace my laptop. The pen will also mean I can take notes more easily with OneNote.

The VPN issue is actually sorted by Windows 8.1. At my company with have Cisco and F5 VPNs. F5 VPN connectivity is built into Windows 8.1 which is great and it works on my test system with the RTM build, it didn't work with the preview.

How easy is it? As I don't fancy waiting until like the 21st to 'fix' it.
I forgot how slow a none tweaked surface rt can be...

Find the iso that includes the surface rt drivers integrated then make a bootable pen drive and install from that.

EDIT: There is a tool you need to run first to get your product key, sorry almost forgot that its been so long since I did mine.

Those of you with the Surface Pro, how do you find the battery life for "real world" usage.
I'm never sure what to make of reviews findings, as I usually find them to be a bit off.

Can you underclock/undervolt these things?

I'm hovering between picking up an ultrabook or a Win 8 tablet at the moment. Figured picking up a used Surface Pro could be a decent option, but have concerns on battery life!
Imagine I'll end up caving and going for the Pro 2, but thought I'd check what the original Pro was like from people who use them!

Well I caved, 128GB with Type Cover 2 ordered :D

Its sold out in the US and didnt want to risk the same happening here.
