*** The Official Microsoft Surface Thread ***

thats what the early reports said, but actually the latter reports are different.
Power seems to be about the same, tegra4 is more power hugry but 800 has faster clock speed making it reasonably even, the newer benchmark,s have the tegra4 soundly beating 800

That's a very poor comparison IMO -

that's a phone (octa) vs a phablet (s800) vs a fan cooled gaming device (tegra 4).

All with differing power/thermal constraints.

If the S800 was in that gaming device those results would be a different story. Also do those results take into account screen resolution?

Has anyone noticed any missed key presses on the Type Cover? AnandTech noted them in the review, but I guess any problems would have been patched by now?

I'am currently debating on buying a Surface 2, I loved the build quality and look of the Surface Pro but held off after the time it took to come out over here and to see how the app store took off.

Does anyone have any indication or information on how an 4GB Pro to a 8GB Pro will handle? I presume it will only effect the amount of apps that can be run at one time and possibly games (though obviously more cpu/gpu bound)?

Pretty much multitasking.

Will be good for more Virtual Machines.

One thing that might improve is SSD speed, quite a few different SSDs get faster when you get bigger drives. So some extra speed might come from that.

Is there any indication of when John Lewis are going to start pre-orders? Would order from Microsoft but JL are doing a 2 year warranty.

Two new ones from Dell the 8" one looks cool.

They just keep coming, last year's Windows 8 release was a let down for devices, I think with 8.1 and Intel's latest chips there is going to be an amazing array of choices very soon.

The Dell offering sound quite good, in the fact they tend to offer loads of conflagrations, which is lacking the the Surface range.

Hmmm. I have hit some what of a predicament at the moment with these devices, I loved having the full Windows 8 experience on my Surface Pro. However, when you are not at home or in a WiFi enabled area it means I need to take another my dongle or tether to my phone after a while this becomes a PITA.

So the current list of LTE/3G enabled tablets look to be:

Surface 2
Nokia 2520
Sony VAIO Tab 11

The top two are Windows RT, which should be fine. However, I would like the option of using SkyGo / Open VPN etc.. when I am away from home which I am not sure that works with RT at the moment.

Your right :( so looks like we'll have to wait till at least the surface pro 3 before ms comes to its senses.

Also last night, Panay reiterated that Microsoft will be coming out with an LTE-enabled version of the Surface 2 early next year, something he first mentioned in a Reddit Q&A last week. Panay said he expects the devices to be available initially on AT&T in the U.S. and Vodafone in Europe. However, he was clear that there won’t be a version of the Surface Pro 2 with LTE.

The Sony looks interesting, sort of in between the BayTrail tablets and Surface Pro. However it's more expensive, slower, and by the looks of that kickstand can't replace an ultrabook in the way Surface Pro can.

Still nice to see a lot more choice then this time last year.
