*** The Official Microsoft Surface Thread ***

Theres the actual remote desktop app and then Splashtop, I would love somebody to try it out to see how it works on either.

If it's up to it, then it would sway me a lot to getting the Surface 2.

Tegra enhancements on Speakers have seemingly stopped working.
Which renders my current OS unusable for netflix, does anyone realize how awfully quiet it is :p

Oh you have the Surface 2? Could you test out the remote desktop functionality with FM14 please? I assume you have it looking at your sig.

I can give it a bash for you.

EDIT : Using Windows Remote Desktop with FM14 is a no go, it was fine until I was in a match in the 3D match engine, shocking really given shield, game streaming should be very viable, but it's seemingly not.

Thanks for doing that, that's disappointing! Any chance of trying it with Splashtop?

You can do 1080p with splashtop, just need to change the res in splashtop settings before you connect to the host computer.

It really isn't great though I have to say, the input lag even when on local wired network makes it very frustrating. Would dread to see what it's like truly remote connecting over the internet.

It's great for watching media stored on home PC or general remote access tasks, but gaming on it is just too laggy imo.

I've tried Borderlands 2, Battlefield 4, Dota 2, Starcraft 2 etc.

Not a great contribution but got a surface rt in black Friday sale for $199. So far really impressed but makes me want to spend more on a 2 pro :(

Ha know what you mean, when I had the RT it made me want the Pro, then the extra RAM in the Pro2 made me want that, wonder what they will add-on on the Pro3 which will make me want one of those as well :D

Firmware update out yesterday for all surface models.

The Pro 2 one mentions an improvement in colour fidelity, and I thought after installing the colours seemed a bit better. Noticed it especially with the orange of the music live tile, just seemed a bit... deeper? Anyone else seeing this?

My original Surface RT is really flying now.

They've ironed out any issues with all the firmware updates and the move to 8.1 has helped the user experience no end.

I still miss not having a desktop music player and chrome/firefox. But it's a great machine.

If I was in the market for a new full Windows laptop, I'd go for the Surface 2 Pro for sure.

anyone who had original Surface and went Surface 2? are the differences worth the extra?

I'm still eyeing one, as I like the construction and they can be had for £250 for 32GB including Touch cover, but then at the same time there are things like Venue 8 Pro with full Windows, so still can't decide.

It's a big improvement, not worth twice the cost but you will notice the difference.

You're making a mistake comparing them because they're a similar price, the size makes a big difference in how you'll interact with them. I'd recommend you first figure out if 7-8" or 10-11" makes more sense then decide if you're going to need to run X86 applications and act accordingly.

I bought the S2 and took it back, my original RT is running practically just as fast and honestly couldn't see a HUGE difference in the screen despite the added resolution, which goes to show how completely over hyped the whole thing is.

There is a tangible difference, especially if you multitask and work on the desktop.

The original Surface RT is a fine tablet which I've said all along so it's certainly not a bad buy. Don't forget to factor in the free Skype and SkyDrive with Surface 2 if you use those services.
