*** The Official Microsoft Surface Thread ***

Unless you're on price restriction, i wouldnt get the surface rt. As siad its hood, but the others are better. Especially with its dispaly. Which doesnt allow all split screen options.

Had another play with surface 2 and 2520 today both are nice, no clear winner from a hands on.

Kickstand and that type cover are just so darn lovely. Screen wise basically nothing in it. Although I couldnt test the lumias readability in briight sunlght (which for me is one of the big seeling points) There wasnt a difference in launch times from what i could tell, but couldn't install a banchmark. Both had 16gb remaining on 32gb version. Lumia had LTE though which is nice, MS need to release the mobile version soon.

But god did I say how nice that type cover is on the surface.

And cpw didnt have any 1520 in stock for a play :(

Pretty much made up my mind and will be purchasing a Surface 2 Pro...but will be doing so in the States this summer...pricing is just so different.

In the States you're looking at a price difference of £250-300 at just about every price point, it's crazy to be honest...although not much of a surprise.

Go get one from HK, check out the pricing over there compared to here in the UK...

Glad we have an office out there, just got to find a reason to go out there, dont suppose "getting lost" would count when they send me out to Bangladesh and Pakistan next year lol..

How much is it in the US? My sister in law is a flight attendant

Its called 20% vat.

I think they've done some updates to the speakers, it's now usable without the tegra enhancements and audible.
Still needs to be louder like.

But then I've just gotten myself an Acer Aspire S7 Ivy Ultrabook, and the speakers on it literally crap all over the Surface 2's =/.

I have to agree the speakers are terrible! To the point I think there faulty!!

What's the tegra option you speak of ???

Go into sound properties and then advanced, untick tegra enhancements.

You used to be able to tell a massive difference in quality with it off, but it was soooo quiet.

Now it's half way.

I have a strange issue with my surface pro 2. The battery indicator in Windows is seems to have got itself confused.

Windows seems to think the battery capacity is lower than it actually is. So it looks like it charges to 100% quickly. If I leave the charger in for a long while after this then charging must continue.

When I take the charger out the battery indicator is stuck at 100% for nearly 3hours and then drops quickly for the next 2 - 3 hours.

Any ideas on how can get Windows or the Surface to correctly report battery life?

Yeah my battery life indicators a bit squiffy as well, will run down to 0% and turn itself off, then if you plug it in it says plugged in not charging, 0%, then turn it off and back on again (rather than a reboot, actually off) and it'll show proper power, however if you pull the power when it says 0% it kills the machine straight off...

I wonder if this is down to the December firmware update. It installed last Sunday and its only this week I have had the battery issue.

I did a full restore on mine lastnite as I was having issues with the device not going into standby or waking up whenever it felt like it..

See how it goes today as I load my stuff back on it.

Yes, the update has actually been pulled because of battery problems.

Marvellous :p Thanks for the heads up

Update: I switched off the surface and then held the volume up and power button for 20 seconds. The screen flashed on and off displaying the BIOS briefly. When I switched on the Surface again the battery indicator has started to report the correct charge levels. I checked this by running the following command in Command Prompt:

powercfg /batteryreport

originally it said the capacity was under half the design capacity. It now reports a charge capacity much closer to the designed charged capacity.

64GB $899.00 approx £560
128GB $999.00 approx £624
256GB $1299.00 approx £811
512GB $1799.00 approx £1124

Worked out with a 1.6 exchange rate. Sales tax obviously comes into things depending on what state it's bought in but as you can see ultimately a whole lot cheaper if you can pick one up while out there or if someone you know is ;)

Bit late to the party but finally managed to have a play on a Surface 2 with the touch cover. Absolutely blown away, such a brilliant bit of kit. Microsoft really need to up the marketing to Samsung proportions though because the amount of people I've mentioned them too to be greeted with a 'What?', is far too high. They've got a great product, they need to push it.

Well, I may unfortunately have been a bit hasty. Much of the impressive nature of the deviceaappears to be mostly skin deep. For something that was purchased specifically to provide more functionality than an iPad but still not need to be a full laptop, some simple tasks are just infuriatingly unclear/just don't work. Save images from Nextgen reader without opening it up into Internet Explorer? Can't do it. But what's worse, is because no one seems to have these devices yet, Google searches for solutions yield no help what so ever. This has been an eerily consistent problem whenever I've encountered something I'm not sure how to do. Worst part is its for the missus, which means if I can't figure out how it works, she'll be more likely to throw it in the bin before figuring it out. Looks like it'll either have to be the Pro or just a regular laptop :(

So, you bought something that blew you away to start with but then cant get the hang of how it does what it does, hardly the devices fault there chap ;)
Have you looked over o XDA, there's a fair few Surface users over there that might be able to help you if the guys here cant...
