*** The Official Microsoft Surface Thread ***

how long did it take for you guys to get yours? I ordered Saturday afternoon so just wanted to know when I could expect it?

Ordered Sunday morning, dispatched yesterday and arrived 10 minutes ago.

Leaving it on charge for the day and need to find a friend who will let me steal his WiFi for the updates as I suspect updating would take most of my 15GB monthly allowance from Three :(

got mine today. Amazing bit of kit for £300! To think this with the touch cover would have been about £800 on release last May!!

I want a Surface Pro Mini, none of this WinRT rubbish or weakassed Atom CPU's, I want something the same sort of power as the first gen Surface Pro with full fat Windows 8, but in an iPad Mini sort of size..

You'll be waiting a very very long time like 5+ years for new battery tech to come into mass production, or Intel go through several more generations. OR it would have a battery life of like 15minutes.

Is it really worth spending extra getting the SP2 over the SP1? I can afford the SP2 but cannot justify the price.

The SP1 128GB at £439 with free touch keyboard seems more sensible over the SP2 128GB at £719. £700 is stepping into the gaming laptop price range.

Depends what you want to use it for, I use the odd VM so the extra RAM of the SP2-8/256 swung it for me, the rest of it doesnt really make any odds..
If 4Gb and the battery life is fine for you then, get the SP1, there are some damned good deals on the SP1 either new or you can pick them up where people have upgraded to the SP2..

There's several, or do you mean you're waiting for a surface with let

Sharp mebius pad is also looking good, and is meant to be leaving Japanese shoreline in early 2014, although I doubt we'll get in the uk.

Ideally I have been after a Surface with it inbuilt, as its a PITA tethering all the time. I'm also after a x86 based one, as the ARM based ones have limitations on what id use it for.

I have been looking at the Thinkpad 8 BUT again its lacking the LTE option at the moment.

The surface range is almost profitable.
Latest MS figures $932m cost and $893m revenue. Much better than the almost 1bn write off the other year. Still a far cry from the iPad though, which has experienced a downturn, but still at ~$7.5bn.

Still going in the right direction, what's annoying is MS choice and lack of updates.
Why is there still no 3g/lte options. Although they did say they would come early 2014.

Great speed boost for the Surface RT.. Disable Windows Defender

Really free's up the CPU nicely when browsing websites.

http://www.windowsegis.com/how-to-disable-windows-defender-for-surface-rt/

Those instructions make no sense at all.

Noticeable effect?

1- I'm assuming it should mean regedit
2- no such key, have found defender in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWAR > MICROSOFT > WINDOWS DEFENDER
3 - right click, permissions, advance, change owner(at the top) > in the enter object name, enter your live account email > check names > click apply [ check the box for apply to subgroups > apply.
4 - right clock on disableantispyware > modify > change value to 1 > apply
5 - reboot

Now to see if it makes any noticeable difference to make it worth while to run the risk.

Hopefully surface 3 will fill the gaps, I will want to upgrade come October. The tegra 3 struggles massively with map apps.

There's a Surface 2 4G available for pre-order in the US. That's the ARM version not the Pro.

Finally, why on earth has it taken them so long.
I like 4g occasionally, I tether to the phone, but occasionally if phone hasn't got any reception, then you can keep a different network sim in the tablet.
Although not worth upgrading just for that.

Sure they make sense..

Go to a reg key, set owner, grant permission, change key. Reboot to take effect

Not really they had everything wrong, from not calling it regedit, not calling the rev the right name to changing owner.

Mine is what you actually do, there's is just a wrong mess.
