*** The Official Microsoft Surface Thread ***

Well I like to be different :D
I jsut found it too slow and clunky, it wasnt mine it was a friends so didnt get to use it much but he was saying he cant watch video on it properly as it stutters etc, I did tell him to put 8.1 and a firmware update on it so it might have improved since then but given other Atom based units I've used before (Netbook/Top sort of machines) I just thought it was more of the same old Atom crap..

There's definitely a problem there. There's no question over Baytrail's ability to handle video - Youtube, Blu-Ray, MKV etc. at any resolution up to 1080p should play back flawlessly (I have no idea about resolutions over 1080p as I have neither tested this nor seen any test results). In general desktop use my Asus T100 performs perfectly fine - there's no noticeable performance drop versus my desktop. The limitations of the hardware only rear their head during 3D applications (i.e. games and the like), Photoshop and video editing. Even then, it does a decent job for a tablet.

I turned it back on, I couldn't notice any noticeable difference.
However one of the newer updates has made a huge difference to YouTube site and a few others.

Actually its one thing that has really made me go back to Metrotube and Bette touch enabled apps, its not for the vids, but its just removes all the ads and kick from the websites to load so much better.

Surely the best route for Microsoft is to ditch the RT altogether and launch a Bay Trail "pro", perhaps with some of the other advanced features like the digipen removed, add full Windows 8, and price it competitively with things like the HP Omni?

We'll see what they have planned for tomorrow.

Personally I'm still waiting for a dock for my Pro2....

The web address will be out today sometime.
Live broadcast at 11am ET, which I believe is 4pm our time?

Still loads of rumours that this will be a surface 3 event I just can't see it. Processors aren't out unless they announce it and don't release till end of year.
I'm only expecting a mini. and if there has to be an odd ball announcement then maybe a surface phone. But that's very unlikely.

Tegra k1 is 2H 2014
Broadwell is holidays 2014
Cherrytrail late 2014

Can't see a surface 3 unless it's a Baytrail, as that's the only thing that'd warrant calling it a new name, but then that'd be silly at this time in development.

No Broadwell till Christmas at the earliest.

The rumour is, to stretch the pro price range out and go head to head with laptops, so i3, i5 and i7 offerings and with a larger screen. I still can't see it. They would have to come with a powered keyboard for a start to take on laptops.

•i3-4GB RAM-64GB - $799
•i5-4GB RAM-128GB - $999
•i5-8GB RAM-256GB - $1299
•i7-8GB RAM-256GB - $1549
•i7-8GB RAM-512GB - $1949

The rumour I do like is relocation of the home button to the side. assuredly as you can't reach it in the centre on a 10.6" let alone a 12".

Depends how big the bezel are, they could reduce them a lot and not increase the devices size much.

They could also make them thinner over all, spread the componest out a little..have a larger battery.

Its something I would actually be interested in, as instead of putting a PC together, I think something like this with a dock and screen for desktop use would be enough for me.

Its tomorrow we find though isnt it?

Microsoft has finally partnered with a home automation company. Insteon, who will release w8.1 and wp8 apps on 1st of June and will also be selling their kits in ms stores and online.

INSTEON, creators of the world's best-selling home automation and control technology, today announced the INSTEON app for Windows PCs, tablets and phones will be available June 1, 2014. INSTEON connected home products will be available for purchase on MicrosoftStore.com on June 1 as well and will be available in most Microsoft Stores across the U.S. by early July

In addition to taking full advantage of the bold design and dynamic interface experience Windows 8.1 provides, INSTEON has included new features to this app release that are exclusive to the Windows platform, including:
• Visitor Mode – provides restricted access to children or guests in your home
• Live Tiles – get status on multiple devices directly on your Windows 8.1 Start screen (not currently available on Windows Phone 8)
• Enhanced Camera Support – view multiple cameras at once, view full-screen, and camera support without the need of an INSTEON Hub
• Multi-House Support – enables you to control multiple homes or businesses from a single account
• Dashboard View – a quick and organized view of the status of your home

“The Windows 8.1 platform provided INSTEON with an unparalleled opportunity to develop a beautiful and easy-to-use connected home experience. The Live Tile architecture is especially well-suited for home automation,” said Joe Dada, CEO, INSTEON. “Users are going to love controlling their INSTEON-connected home from their Windows devices.”
