*** The Official Microsoft Surface Thread ***

The rt is at a stupid price these days. It needs a massive slash. It's been that price for ever. So perhaps once they release the mini, they'll slash rt down to what it should be. Creating a bit more room. Or perhaps they'll just price them similarly, as 8 and 10
" are different markets.

Surface rt. should be down to £150 these days, or preferably £180 with touch

"'s are different markets, but the Surface RT is a poor spec, if it's priced the same as the Surface Mini (Which needs to be beefy) the Surface RT won't sell.

There's no way this will sell if it's more expensive than the original iPad mini, no matter how much better the specs are. It needs to be sub £230 IMO.

Also can't imagine MS have many Pros left now with the deals they've had (got mine with cover for £290!).

Microsoft will likely differentiate the RT against something like the Nexus 7 based on it having more features in their opinion.

Surface Pros are on fire sale because they're sat on a mountain of unsold launch inventory which makes the balance sheets look bad. Knock on problem is that makes the RT version look expensive in comparison...

If they'd offer the Surface Pro to corporates at the same price as the web store places like my work would snap their hand off and buy a load. We can't buy them from the MS Store, and the few places we can buy from can't get the same offers, just RRP. It's crackers.

I'd be interested to see how far Microsoft could push an atom and full fat 8.1 in the mini form factor but given it's going to be an RT based ARM machine they have lost a sale from me, I am now more interested in the possible surface pro 3 as I want full fat 8.1 not RT class devices...

How about the Pro? Cheap at the moment, faster than an atom and the battery life isn't that bad.

I've owned every Surface device (RT,Pro,2,Pro 2)

I sold them all.

If I'm Golidlocks:

The RT was stolen.

The Surface 2 was really nice and my favourite but too restricted (need my VLC and adblock and Chrome)

The Pro 1&2 was too big and heavy as a tablet
The Pro 1&2 were too small as a laptop.

So at the moment I have a Dell XPS 15 Haswell, and a Dell Venue 8 Pro. Both are great.

But I loved the Surface 2 form factor and would really love one with an Atom.

A Surface 2 with Atom would be just right as a tablet.

The Atom is an awesome CPU, and works great in the Venue 8.

I've had a play with one of the Toshiba 8" things and it was crap with full fat windows on it, I'd be interested to see what MS could do with one properly tweaked running 8.1 full fat, thats what I would want from "mini" device.

Your experience goes against the grain of everyone else though :p.

I'd love a Surface with an Atom.

Well I like to be different :D
I jsut found it too slow and clunky, it wasnt mine it was a friends so didnt get to use it much but he was saying he cant watch video on it properly as it stutters etc, I did tell him to put 8.1 and a firmware update on it so it might have improved since then but given other Atom based units I've used before (Netbook/Top sort of machines) I just thought it was more of the same old Atom crap..
