Working in America just now and tbh sim free is a fortune over here , you think it would be possible for me to buy online from Germany , and have them ship it to the usa , so I can use my sim card from the states in it?

Whats chances of us custom charges?

^thought AT&T were doing it for silly money? $469 or thereabouts? Even if its locked to AT&T you could pay to unlock it and still be much better off.

I got to play with the 920 early last month, it's quite a good phone and the right weight as well (not light and flimsy like a lot of new things). Screen was brilliant and the UI worked well.

£280 for the Americans and £450 for us is quite insulting.

It's not.
The 280 is heavily subsidized and requires a contract.

449 + a contract

"Your order's winging its way to you right this minute so get ready to say hello to your new device."

Would suggest that they have it, and its actually being shipped.

No it doesn't at all, they haven't even proceccesed your order, read the email. It is very clear.
It's just an auto email, non specific, no postage details. It very clearly states 14days, there is no confusion.

Well I've decided just to get the Google Nexus 4 for now. £280 inc VAT available on the 13th of November.

Isn't it great knowing a price and a date?

Can't get over my bitterness of Nokia and EE, its driving me mad haha. In some ways I feel like they don't deserve my money, but the phone looks so good its overriding any sense.

Either way it will be next year before I get one, if I ever to get one.

Good luck all!

Phones4U have tweeted saying...

@cliffkgibson @PhoneDaz Hi Cliff, we're selling this handset SIM free at £449.95 from Friday in store. This will be locked to EE though. Liz

@mrcfield Hi Chris, this tweet was referring to the fact that Nokia have confirmed that our stores will receive Lumia 920's from Friday. Liz

@jakwa1ker Hello, all stores should have received black & white Lumia 920's by Saturday yes! Thanks, Liz :)

And also you can order a black one on their website on T-Mobile & Orange now! But pretty awful T-Mobile full monty handset price, it's more than the iPhone 5!!!!

They might be selling it, whether they have it in stock in store is another matter. Id be surprised if you can walk in, buy one and walk out with out with it there and then

Not going to stop me walking in and trying though as there are enough sites offering unlock codes...

or maybe not - 4-18 days for the unlock code

But we don't know if they'll work considering it appears the EE handsets are locked differently.

Do you mean because they're locked to Orange and T-Mobile?

Is EE an actual operator or a virtual one (Like Virgin) that just reports it is EE when under the hood it is still Orange and T-Mobile?

Nah I'm referring to those files [RXP]Andy posted earlier. Some of the files were related to the locking of the phones, and the EE specific ones differed in size to the "normal" ones.

So I'm thinking that perhaps the current unlock methods that are available may work fine for the other handsets used abroad but might not work for the EE branded stuff.

I've read (may have well been this thread) that in other countries, e.g. the US, they have a habit of selling these 'SIM free' handsets that are actually networked locked. Unlike in the UK where SIM free is widely regarded as meaning the opposite, i.e. no network lock. I'm concerned that this could be the beginning of the end. If Nokia/EE succeed then other companies will try the same.

I thought about buying PAYG/'SIM free' from P4U but decided against it due to the possibility of network branding. The ones from Germany (in my case Amazon) should be free of network branding & locks. Am I right to be thinking that?

It's not, actually try checking out with the phone "no commitment" except you need to purchase one of our plans!!

I tried it yesterday and no matter what I did the basket wouldn't let me checkout without adding a plan. The cheapest plan is $29 / month and you need to be over 65 and living in America to receive that price.

Hmm if that is the case then isn't it saying you can buy the phone "no commitment" at $449.99 but you then have to take out a plan which surely you can cancel because there is no minimum term associated with it?

On another note, jesus at their contract pricing
