So I just bought a cheap payg phone to use whilst my Lumia is in for repair, but it doesn't seem to be able to use GPRS internet with an EE SIM - can anyone confirm that EE doesn't allow this? If it's true then I'll have to take it back as I was told the sim would work. Cheers for any advice anyone can give with this!

Not sure but have you read this?

http://mashable.com/2012/11/20/living-with-lumia-day-4-5-6/

Speaks of an issue with Facebook and Skype constantly syncing data

Don't have skype installed.

After further reading some mention the inbuilt syncing of facebook (not the app) could be the cause. If it fails to sync it can get caught in a loop that causes drain.

I've restarted the phone and things are better. It's frustrating to say the least.

Has anyone gone from a 4S to the 920?

What are your thoughts? Do you miss the iPhone? Does Windows 8 stream nicely from say your PC to your phone?

Random question but would my car headunit play the music stored on the phone like it does from my 4S? It has Bluetooth wireless music so I guess that side might work?

Can't really help mostly as I left iphone for android before moving to this phone. But I can confirm that you can stream music from your phone to your bluetooth car stereo. Also you can stream music from Nokia music over bluetooth, which is pretty cool!

for those of you who dont know, please close the apps you are NOT using by press the BACK button (not the windows key) until the app is no more in visible sight. or press and hold the back button to get a list of the current running apps, nav to it and close it down.

The thing that can also drain the battery is if you have email set to sync every 30 mins. Set it to once a day if possible instead or manually. (Manual works with Exchange accounts)

Update in case anyone's interested. Having been shunted from orange to phones4u to query where the update is, I range nokia care and the guy I spoke to didn't seem to know what portico was, later twigged that I was talking about an update, then just parroted a set script about the rollout happening at different times. I said that others with an EE Lumia on Orange had received an update but he just re-read the script.

Nobody wants to take responsibility or give any firm knowledge. The staggered rollout is a spectacularly stupid idea that creates aggrieved customers. I'm no partcular fan of apple, but at least they take responsibility for their products.

Thanks to you all for the knowledge you've imparted, however.

Right well I let my phone completely die last night, and charged it overnight. Its been off charge since 9am and I havent touched it except for a 10 minute phone call, battery is still at 100%. Wifi on and data on, emails sync every 30 minutes. At least it looks like nothing is draining my battery life when im not using it.

One thing I have changed which i think may have been draining battery, is the wifi disconnecting when the screen is locked. My reasoning being, if you are picking up your phone every few minutes, it has to find and reconnect the wifi every time you do that. Im thinking it might be better to just leave it on so its not searching all the time.

For battery life and random disconnects go to settings>mobile network and change the "highest connection speed" to 3G from 4G unless you are actually on 4G. If you're only 3G is seems to spend battery hunting for a 4G signal which if you can't get one is a pointless waste of battery.

My battery last 3/4 days if i dont use it but soon as it starts being used probably last 8 hours at the most i have the battery saver option on all the time.

I have:-

Location off
Brightness Low
Tap+Send off
background tasks all blocked

When the portico update going to be available on three taking its time?

I'm pretty sure mine had the update already when I received it from Three.

What is your current firmware build number?

Yea, Nokia arnt doing well here, really poor from them so far in terms of support for those of us that bought the cash straight to Nokia for the handset.

Also, by all accounts they have truly ballsed things up with the launch of the 920 and 620 in China, they just are refusing to learn about supply and demand.

Thanks for the quick reply! I checked the other posts. Similar problem, but did not find any solution. Do you have any idea if its the hardware or the software? Its really irritation. Ocurred again today.

On another note, Does nt the time and date automatically set in the phone. Coz everytime it locks, I reset and I have to manually set the date and time?

Try turning flight mode on, then off again. But as ElliotG says, you may just be unlucky. :)

Ever thought it might be MSFT's fault and not Nokia's? Don't go blaming people when you don't even know the story.

How can is be a MS problem? Some people getting the update on the handsets on certain networks, but Nokia cant manage a simple very small update straight to unlocked phones they make?, do the updates for EVERY handset made by Nokia have to go through MS?

Or is that about the huge shortage in deliveries to the Chinese market for their new year after making a big as campaign, if its an MS issue its hard to see how, I want Nokia to do well, but either theirs a huge communication problem between them and MS (then forget it, Nokia have had it then), or Nokia are running and stumbling at the same time, is it really hard to ask that a company like Nokia that have been in this business since the start still cant get a lot of their act together.

Well its 1am and im just about to go to bed, phone has been off charge since 9am, between then ive had about 1hr45mins web browsing (10minutes 3g), 30minutes of calls, 6texts, 8minutes of youtube videos and taken about 20photos in quick succession. Battery is sitting at 46%.

That's pretty light use for me though, i had to stop myself from reaching for the phone to browse the web several times. Normally id browse for about 3.5hours on a heavy day. If i get a full day out if it with heavy usage ill be happy, will probably try that tomorrow so expect more boring updates. :)
