Yeah was going to say I have no problems playing my playlists, but I don't have Facebook so seems that's why :) Glad you got it working!
 
The way to tell if they are unlocked or not is to look at the box. I'm not sure whether P4U are selling the unlocked version or not yet but if it says 'CV GB' or 'CTV GB' on the box then it is unlocked. If it says 'EE' anywhere on the white label on the end of the box it will be LOCKED.
 
Chaps - I've read back a bit on the thread but excuse me if this has been answered elsewhere.

I just bought a Lumia 920 on Orange from Phones4U. As far as I'm aware it's the unbranded unlocked version (they said it was)

I like it so far except I've been annoyed by Google changing their calendar syncing mode, thereby forcing me to move all appointments to hotmail.

My main issue - The phone won't update to Portico. It can't see any update available. Is portico out for unlocked Lumia 920s?

Flapper: it is NOT unlocked no matter what they say. they conned a lot of people including me. it is NOT unlocked. ONLY LOCKED to T-Mobile, Orange and EE.

furthermore the update is not quite here yet. some get it, some dont. but for the truly unlocked devices, it will be here any day now.

It might already be running Portico. I'm on Orange and bought it from P4U, I updated mine 2 weeks ago.

Check the OS version, portico should be: 8.0.10211.204

This is what i'm worried about. My phone's running 8.0.9903.10 and won't recognise any update. I seem to be using the EE signal.

EDIT The only explanations i can see are:

1. I have a truly unlocked sim-free phone and the update isn't out, or isn't being distributed by orange.

2. The phone's faulty.

Any way to update manually?

Go to settings -> about and see what it says under carrier. If it says CV GB then it is an unlocked device. If it says EE/Orange then it is a locked device.

The update for CV GB isn't out yet. No ETA on it either.

The phone won't be faulty.

No way to update manually unless you flash the device manually.

There is a slight chance you may already be on Portico as the newer devices being sold have it pre-installed. Go to settings -> about -> more info and look at the firmware revision number. If it is xxxx.xxxx.1249.xxxx then it is already on portico. Any other number in that third block and it is not.
 
Ok. Thanks for that detailed explanation. I appear to have an EE phone, on an orange contract, and my phone isn't updated.

I rang orange and they directed me to phones4u. They wont have a clue about updates.:/

Thanks for the quick reply! I checked the other posts. Similar problem, but did not find any solution. Do you have any idea if its the hardware or the software? Its really irritation. Ocurred again today.

On another note, Does nt the time and date automatically set in the phone. Coz everytime it locks, I reset and I have to manually set the date and time?

Best to speak to Nokia Care I would have thought. They'd have more of a clue then P4U.

I do wish people would read more than the latest page. I've explained this about 4 times now. Unless you have an O2, Tesco, giffgaff or Voda SIM the auto update on time will NOT work. This is due to these networks using a technology called NITZ. Other networks do not support it.
