Really? That's one of the biggest issues with WP.

All the Google apps
Instagram
BBC News
BBC Sport
ITV Player
4oD
Channel 5
A facebook app thats the same found on iOS and Android
TomTom or Waze (although I hear its in beta)
HSBC Fast Balance
Barclays Pingit
etc

I like WP but the being without tools that I used daily is annoying.
 
Well, theirs Instance, which got the "nod" from them, and is a beautiful interface.
BBC news, well, any one using WP8 is going to be using the Bing news/ trvel sport apps as they are leaps and bonds better than the dedicated apps.

I don't bother with TV stuff on any medium, except for TV CatchUp and iPlayer.
Whats wrong with the MS made Facebook app?

TomTom?...as far as I know everyone is using Nokia Maps.

Banking thing maybe...but personally damned if im ever going to use them for security reasons anyways.
 
My favourite 3rd party Instagram at the moment is 6tag. However, I've not looked at Instance in a while now.

I know Barclays have stated there app's are due 2014.

One problem you are going to have is Google apps on my MS platform, this seem to be having a small disagreement at the moment.

I'd agree with the Nokia Maps, its a very underrated part of WP, it also gives you the ability to load the maps on to your device. So in area's of patchy signal, you'll still get map updates.

However, that said WP on the whole wont suit everyone. The Apps will come but its a case of waiting. WP is currently the fastest growing OS in the EU at present.

If you want apps though, buy a IOS device simple as really.
 
just going to quickly throw this in here instead of a new thread. lost my iphone on holiday. need a new phone. still have about a year on my contract so i want a cheap phone that allows me to check emails, have some music & tether to my laptop to work as a 3g spot.

I've been looking at the Nokia 520. seems cheap and cheerful. Can be had at 119 on 3's website so may be able to find it cheaper knocking around. i dont really want to spend more than that. Ill get a nicer one when its upgrade time in a year.

does any one have any thoughts about the phone ? I presume I'll be able to tether it ?
 
Ts a great little phone, yes you can tether. Battery is a little weak and the cameras is pretty rubbish.
But for the price its superb. Went from ip4 to 520 and other than camera nothing i miss.
I love the UI nbut its a bit info resteicted due to tile size, and cant wait to buy a top range lumia, once they introduce 3 tiles wide, i think that will chnage the ui so much for the better.
 
I put my wife on two low end phones now. HTC Wildfire (Android) and currently the Nokia 710 (WP7). The Nokia is much more of a phone. The OS runs like it does on my 925. That's one of the known good things about the WP OS. I used it to tether to the iPad when we were away once.

Do it imo!

Step 1
Make sure the charger is disconnected.
1. Switch the power Off.
2. Press and hold the Volume down and connect the charger, if succeed an exclamation mark (!) is shown on the screen.


(To cancel OS reset and exit to the normal mode, press the Volume Down + Power Key and hold them for 15 seconds).

Step 2
Then input Keys in the following order:
1. Volume up
2. Volume down
3. Power
4. Volume down

Step 3
The phone will reset and boot up automatically. Please note that this may take several minutes.

Grr, need to try this as I went to reset the phone so the missus could use it and I have the endlessly spinning cogs now.
Cant get to the ! mark yet, but will have a play later on. It must be a gdr2 issue as I have reset before with no issues
Thank god my 920 is my spare (strokes 1020 gratefully)

This happened to me last night. I fixed it by holding volume down power and the camera button till the phone resets and after it vibrates let go of just the power button until the spinning cogs appear. The spinning cogs came back but only for 10 minutes then the phone rebooted automatically.
