**** The Official Note 4 thread ****

Does anyone know why I can't flash a carrier specific (EE) rom on my Note 4? A while ago I went for a stock lollipop rom and now want to get it back to an EE branded one but no matter what EE rom I download (KitKat/lollipop) it always fails, right at the end yet Odin will happily flash the stock rom still.

Why would you want to?. I had the 3 branded rom on my Note which ran a lot slower than the BTU that i'm running now.

Seeing as Samsung have forgotten about this phone and we're probably not getting 5.1.1 until June 2017 - found this today:

PSA: You Can Optimize Your Note 4’s Recents Menu & RAM

It's the GS6 fix, just about to try the flash method. Details here.

EDIT - installed, first attempt at task switcher - there was a delay but it did feel shorter. Subsequent attempts have been snappy but I have just restarted my phone after flashing, will report back in a bit.

EDIT - it does seem to make an improvement. Random uses of the task switcher is like how it should be. Embarrassing someone in his/her room came up with this and a multi national company with a swathe of developers have yet to fix it almost a year after release.

That flopped. M is the next hope, they've done more with power conservation in M.

Have M on my Nexus 5, its so much better. On L I would get around 3 days standby time with just all my apps syncing and what not, now its over 1 week. I also got a lot more usage during the few short days I used it. The control you get is also really nice so junk apps don't drain your battery.

On topic, is the Note 4 still the best big Android phone. Mom needs a new phone so thinking to just invest now in a great device. Her last phone was the S2 and she kept that for almost 4 years so its worth it.

Note 5 announced next thursday so probably worth waiting for that really - it doesnt look like it'll have an SD card slot but aside from that it'll likely be a pretty significant upgrade

Definitely wait though to be fair the Note 5 is going to be the definition of an evolutionary upgrade so if you wanted to save a bit of money for you mum, the Note 4 (>5.1.1.) is a great shout.

EDIT:

This is one of the reasons why Samsung (not the only guilty ones) can't keep up with updates. Do we really need another version of the S4 Mini? I swear they said they would stop this ludicrous fragmentation or was that Sony?

A good finger print scanner would be nice, I doubt she would notice anything else thou, and she really likes using her SD card, it means it can just travel from phone too phone e.g. she has a cheaper galaxy phone for holidays.

I will look it over, not 100% sure it will be worth the price overall.

Really interested in this phone had a look at it in carphone warehouse i need an upgrade form my G2 even thought i just had it for just over 18 months..really like it in black

Why si battery life so inconsistent. I had my phone switched off all weekend because it was pretty much dead. I charged it Sunday night and the battery is now doing better. Yesterday seemed like a good day, charged last night and today I got to work around 90%, been listening to music all day pretty much and I'm only now at 39%. Last week I would be in the 20's by now.

I'm sure poor signal has quite an effect on mine.

I've started running mine with power saver on but only restricting CPU speed. I can't see a difference in performance and it seems like a bit of an improvement.

Had anyone here tried or considered the nexus 6? I know it's a bit bigger but other than that are there any reasons not to get a N6?

I have a Nexus 6 and my sis has a Note 4.

IMO, Note 4 has a brighter screen for outdoor viewing (direct sunlight), a better camera (N6 is good just not as good). Removable battery and sd slot.

The Nexus has stock Android which IMO looks and performs better, stereo FF speakers.

The rest of the specs are similar.

Stereo speakers, top 3 OIS camera, AMOLED screen, sd slot, large removable battery, premium finish, dust/water proof, near stock Android........one day!!

Banging my head on the table :p

I had a good day yesterday; 5hrs SOT but it lasted right up until I got into bed after a heavy day.

Today - 2.30pm, 59% battery, 1hr 9mins SOT :(

Same up and down battery life, Android OS usage is all over the place...

Had enough of Samsung. Love the hardware, can't stand the software unreliability.

It's odd how poor the battery life can be, but it's not just you experiencing it.

So far today mine's been off charge for 9 hours, with 2 hour screen on time and I'm on 27% battery. Shockingly, this is actually a good battery day for me!
