****The Official Note III Thread****

Yup, not a huge deal breaker as the new stock kernel appears to have various hlte things in place going by the changelog. Just wait for an update I guess!

Is anyone having a problem with the reception on their Galaxy Note 3 ?

Ive tried both Vodafone and Virgin Mobile SIM cards in my phone and the reception hasn't been great at all, ive been on Vodafone with the Note 3 for approx 5 months and the signal is passable but i wouldn't say the signal strength was great at all. I then decided to try out a Virgin SIM card for a month, a week into that and the signal strength has been pretty poor.

I read on google that other people have reported issues with the antenna being of a poor quality, some Note 2 users were saying that the signal strength on the Note 3 is a lot worse than it was on the Note 2.

Anyone else experiencing poor signal strength on their Note 3 ?

Playing with both note 2 and 3 as I type and signal is better on EE and Giffgaff with the Note3.
PS this wasn't noted scientifically, just looking at the bars on top of screen and quick play. I was questioning the signal too as had a few drop outs on my n3 with ee but n2 doing same.
Bloody EE. :(

In the past ive had my mate stood next to me who was on the same network, he's got a very basic cheap phone and he was getting a far stronger signal than i was on my Note 3.

Ive got a replacement SIM coming today from the other network i'm trying at the min, if that doesn't improve things drastically then i'm going to contact Samsung to get it sorted, things like this shouldn't be happening on a £450+ phone.

Yeah got this update few days ago , biggest thing going I noticed is smoothness using hangouts for sms as it was always a bit laggy. Am sure it's a tad louder also.

Anyone use lightflow.

Currently on stock rooted 4.4.2 notification access and accessibility mode are both enabled but I cannot get it to work for love nor money. Worked fine on CM11 and previous stock roms

So true, my Note 3 is showing signal of g and 1 bar and my LG G3 showing 4G and 3 bars.
Both on O2

If you root the phone and install CyanogenMod, that will improve the reception enough for the phone to be usable; still not as good as other phones though.

The best phone for reception seems to be the iPhone 5S. However, I don't know if it showing more bars is just down to the algorithm Apple use.

I just don't understand why Samsung or anyone else would release a flagship phone that cost originally over £500 and put a cheap antenna in that doesn't pick up a signal very well, the most important part of the phone is the reception. These antennas must cost peanuts to make, even the best ones.

I'll tell you why! Samsung is a South Korean company. In South Korea, mobile reception is fantastic - it's almost everywhere and they always have fantastic signal.

Thus, for Samsung, putting a more expensive antenna in their phone would be a waste of money because the extra potential signal would be worthless in South Korea.

Then, they release essentially the same phone worldwide with the same components.

Voila, poor signal.

Thats all well and good in South Korea but their market isn't just in South Korea, its worldwide. They surely have people that do field tests worldwide to gauge what type of antenna is required for that particular country, i'd be astonished if they didn't test the Galaxy Note 3 or any other phone for that matter in the particular country that they want to sell it in. The antenna is one of the cheapest components in a mobile phone, even for a higher spec one they are going to cost peanuts make, its not like your talking a processor.

They'll test it; probably only in major cities such as London however.

The components in the EU Note 3 are nearly identical to those in the South Korean model BTW.

The main things for me:

Ability to over clock and undervolt
Different governors
Use of the IR controller
Ability to turn on screen when my case is opened
GPU governors on over clock
