How will 1080 release at summer if GDDR5X mass production starts just then?

Production doesn't start then, large volume production is by then at the latest, but recent news indicates micron is ahead of scale. even before the recent news production was scheduled for well before mid-summer, just in small but increasing volumes. If Nvidia stock-pile the current production then a June announcement and July availability would work fine.
 
So, if those specs are right I'm guessing the 1080 to be roughly 10% faster than a 980Ti and the 1070 to be about 10-15% slower. Total guesses of course :D

Sounds about right, if rumours are correct. The 1080 will likely slot into the current 980 pricing. If it overclocks better than a 980ti, then it will be a hit probably.

Hopefully it will be better than that. We had the same if not better with Maxwell without a die shrink. Core count seems low on those specs for the 1080 and 1070. Surely it is more likely that the 1080 will have around 3000 cores. :confused:

The 980 had 2048 cores compared to full maxwell having 3072 so why would the 1080 have 2048 cores compared to big pascal having 3840 cores?

You would have thought the 1080 would have around 2600-2800 cores.

3000 cores on a mid range this year ? LOL no chance...

This range to me is sounding like Maxwell on a die shrink with a new memory controller and calling it Pascal.:rolleyes: Starting to look like Intel's tick-tock routine for this generation of Nvidia cards for this year.

Maybe nVidia are wanting to put more of a distance between the Ti and Titan next time around? If 2048 cores will do the job and edge out a 980Ti then it'll be a good seller, then the Ti will have nearly 3000 and then the Titan will be full-fat and a bloody monster!!! :D

Well it will have to be called something different then. You can't have a 1080Ti that could be 70%+ faster than the 1080. It wouldn't make sense :p

The problem with these theories is that 980ti is good seller for nvidia and 28nm being so cheap and reliable to manufacture it would be madness for nvidia to intro slightly faster version of that card with new name and on quite expensive new process which still yields bad. Why would nvidia go for lower profits to just introduce something new.
But if new cards were significantly faster, then it would make sense to intro them.
 
So what is this absolutely concrete reliable source on GDDR5X definitely not being available till after summer?

same sources which are telling you it will have GDDR5x and launch at computex.
Either way Micron announced they will commence mass production of GDDR5x this summer.

Micron is currently ramping GDDR5X to mass production, and will be announcing sample dates later this spring. We plan to be in full volume production this summer. I also hope to give you an update later this year on performance specifications.
