They are worth what people are willing to pay. A new card will drop prices, but they will not make 980Ti worthless.

The 1080 is not THAT much faster it would seem.

I think it's more the point that the 1070 is also faster (so Nvidia say).

Also let's not forget how much mature drivers change things.

The GTX 680 was 30% faster than the 580 at launch, but 40%+ by the time the GTX 780 came out.

This is pretty much my reason for wanted to get these new cards.

I have a Gear VR that was free with my phone. It's quite good, but I may wait fro Vive and Rift 2 lol

any of the lower level GPUs come out soon ? I'm updating my HTPC shortly - and was thinking of a 750Ti but wondered if a replacement out soon ?

I was planning to change my monitor this year,so this will a nice upgrade as well,but i will wait for amd offers as well,just be sure i wont overpaying for name

Doesn't look like it from Nvidia, but AMD Polaris 11 should be out soon.

And it should be around twice the performance of a 750 Ti.

As time goes on and we get more DX12 games, the use of ASync Compute might increase and then the performance gap between the 900 series and 1000 series might grow (plus Nvidia only really optimising for the newer cards in drivers, although that may be less of an issue with DX12).

I feel like Async Compute is a bit like hyperthreading.

It first came about on the P4s in an effort to make more efficient use of a really inefficient architecture. Athlon 64 did not need it and did not use it. Even the first Core 2 Duos did not have it.

AMD cards have much more compute capability but struggle to leverage that into ingame performance - FPS. nVidia cards already perform to their best, and nVidia have very lean DX11 drivers. They don't need async compute to schedule multiple concurrent workloads as they can saturate the core with 1 workload, unlike AMD.

AMD’s GCN architecture to perform graphics and compute workloads simultaneously where Nvidia Maxwell cannot, it can do one or the other and in sortware I would think Pascal can do it better than Maxwell.

Just use the exchange rate and add 20% for VAT. It will be there or thereabouts (980Ti, 980 and 970 were all pretty much bang on that when calculating it that way).

So expect £315+ for the 1070 and £500+ for the 1080.

Doom running on GTX 1080 with Vulkan API

steady 140fps, with 1080p Ultra setting running on Vulkan, i know the game isn't very demanding, but it's good to see vulkan doing very well, i wasnt going to get doom but now i will, just because of vulkan , the new API patch should roll out shortly after the release.

Seems either card will be a handy step up from my 7950. Been chugging along but 1440p is a bit hard to drive.
