That's not what the FE is though. Nvidia have shifted it to a premium product. It's not a limited run or low supply and it will remain at a higher price throughout its production run, which is not pre-determined or any less than it would be otherwise. If you want a cheap reference 1080, you're bang out of luck.

They turned the usually most basic version of the card, into the premium version, and it will probably end up being worse than the custom 1080, except it will be available at launch. I wish AMD were more competitive because I don't like Nvidias tactics lol.

I'm confused is current SLI bridges not compatible?

There are SLI bridges that do use both fingers on GPU's. I have an EVGA one on my Ti's.

The new nvidia one is ugly as hell. Love the cooler though.

Well it won't be half the price, given TI's are £500 now and dropping, but they'll level out soon enough, just below the 1070 I imagine, whatever inflated price that is on release. There's also no sure fire evidence that the 1070 is faster... it probably will be in some instances, but across the board? Mmm... yet to be seen, but I suspect, as do many others, that the 980Ti may have the edge at 1440p+ (or at the very least run VERY close), but we really don't know until benchmarks are released. Whichever way you slice it, for someone with a 980Ti it's not going to be a MASSIVE upgrade, that's for sure. Even more so if they want a Reference card, as you only have one option for the 1070 in the Founder's Edition, which will be £400+.
 
The 1070 doesn't really HAVE to beat a 980ti or titan, it just needs to be a fair bit faster than a 980, the 1080 however will be faster and has to be to justify it.

I am very interested to see the reviews of the 10 series to see if somehow a card with the specs of the 1070 can actually beat the 980ti or titan X above 1080p.

NVIDIA said the 1070 was faster than a Titan X in front of millions of people. Tens of millions if you count up all the youtube views.

If the 1070 doesn't comprehensively wreck the 980ti across the board, there will be riots!

That said, I believe the majority of the 1070 performance in new games will come from the pascal enhanced drivers, if you know what I mean. I expect new games to show massive gains on pascal compared to Maxwell, since Maxwell driver optimization is now officially dead.

Lol, well the 980Ti beats the Titan X in certain areas, so does that statement REALLY carry much weight? It's clever marketing BS is all. I am sure the 1070 is faster than the 980Ti in certain areas, but I don't believe (or see any evidence so far) that it will WRECK it across the board. There is plenty of speculation brewing about this and no real evidence to support it either way yet, but we'll find out soon enough...

Why, the Titan X doesn't absolutely wreck the 980Ti, and is beaten by it in some instances due to higher overclocking headroom.
 
The GTX 1080 Ashes of the Singularity benchmarks are intriguing.

Assuming the results are legit, 1080 frame rates are 10-12% faster than a R9 Fury X in that particular game. Given that a single 980ti is around 5-10% faster than a R9 Fury X, all things being equal (driver optimizations etc.) - would if be far off the mark to assume 1080's performance will be pretty close to that of a 980ti?

Fury X is around 10-20% faster in the ashes benchmark in dx12. So the 1080 looks like it could be 20-30% fster than the 980ti in this bench if any of the results are true.

It will be awesome if we'll see 2Ghz+ cards. That will be a further 25% overclocked on top of the card that's 25% faster than 980 Ti. That makes it 56% faster. I assume we'll have good memory OC as well. Since the GDDR5X chips that Micron procures are rated for 12Ghz instead of the 10Ghz that NVIDIA sets them to, there's great headroom for overclock.
 
Huan is extremely good at hyping up products, but if the 1080 really faster than 980 SLI in everything like he says, that is a lot. But then he also says "faster than titan X" and "twice as fast as titan X", then there are leaked bencmarks which make the 1080 look like it would only about 25% faster max compared to overclocked 980ti, which is not as fast as 980 SLI. it is all very confusing.

Doesn't quite work like that, unfortunately. You dont gain a flat 1% in performance for every 1% clock increase.

Complicated - I've seen anything from 1:1 gains, 7.5-8% for every 10% increase or even as little as 4-5% for every 10% overclock depending on setup, game, etc.
