** The Official Nvidia GeForce 'Pascal' Thread - for general gossip and discussions **

I can't see it. Even Nvidias own slides had it sitting at around 25% faster in general gaming performance and we have apparently seen the 3d mark scores.

Yes, I expect ~25% faster stock vs stock but my numbers are based on 1080 hitting ~2.5GHz max OC. I have since realised that a 1080 hitting ~2.5Ghz from ~1800 boost would be a similar max OC compared to 980Ti getting ~1.6GHz from ~1150 (give or take a few %). So a max OC 980Ti should theoretically maintain it's performance ratio compared to mac OX 1080.

It's the old mistake of comparing max OC vs stock and selectively forget that the older card also overclocks.

The 980 was not a 'cut down' 980Ti.

I didn't say it was. Just pointing out that there will be a 1080ti at some point regardless of what the cards are built on.

Is it not a possibility that they'll skip the 1080Ti and go straight to releasing a Titan replacement? There's no guarantee of a Ti card

I don't know. It's unlikely they will release a super top end super expensive Titan and not have a little brother for it at some point. I guess it depends on how good Vega is for them to decide what to do.

Yeah I guess. I'm just having an internal conflict as I have sold my GTX 970 due to my uni exams coming up (yeah the distraction was real) so I am planning on getting a 1080 since I literally have no GPU now. Just slightly concerned that I'll regret it if a 1080Ti is released down the road with a much better price:performance ratio.

I guess that's just a risk you always take when you buy a high end GPU - the next card in line is always gonna be better.

Indeed. But generally it is looking like the 1080 will be 30% faster than the 980Ti overall ( ie when comparing stock and OC performance).

True. If there is a TI variant it will be more expensive than you payed for a 1080 because the TI won't be there to replace the normal 1080 as such, more likely to compete with, or spoil the thunder of the top AMD card.

Anyway I wouldn't dwell on it. Think this way and it saves you a lot of grief. If it does the job you wanted it to then be happy. The TI will be faster but it's not like the 1080 isn't still a very fast card maxing every game also. That's why I didn't spend the extra 80 pounds on the top end card when I upgraded.

I need 4k/60hz/gysnc monitor - my 980 ti struggled (Sold!)

My MASTERPLAN:

Buy 1070 Hybrid and o/c the jaw off it like an 80's pill head, then sell it in 6-8 months when the 1080 Ti is released and buy that - lose £30-40.

or

Buy a 1080 Hybrid and o/c it for a year or two then upgrade to Volta & a 4K/120hz/Gsync.

Can i get a hallelujah!?

Edit: When is OCUK accepting pre-orders???

There is no way a GPU drops only £30-40 in 8 months. Think more like £80.

What was your old 980Ti model? Max OC vs max OC on 980Ti vs 1080 is an unknown quantity until actual reviews are out but expect ~30%. Would that be enough to get the 4K at 60Hz performance you need or expect.

I know it's hard to ignore news hardware but my own scenario is similar to yours. I have 4K/60Hz Freesync and I will be honest even an overclocked 1080 is not going to get 60FPS minimums IMHO.

2nd option for me...

It is going to be a crazy card for sure. Especially if the 2.4ghz is true.

980Ti 1100-14/1500 at a push. 1080 from 1732-24/2500. 3-400mhz vs 7-800. Especially factory overclock cards?

+1ghz with top tier custom bios etc?

If the 3D mark scores were true 1080 at 2.1ghz is a better score than 980Ti SLI maxed out.

I know what the release date, typically you can pre-order cards before their release date so you can have one on day 1.

I expect the below on release date, reference available at the higher price and preorders available for custom designs at varied prices depending on brand. Similar to the 980Ti release.
