** The Official Nvidia GeForce 'Pascal' Thread - for general gossip and discussions **

Well mine was lighthearted and not certainly not ridiculing anyone for making a mistake and I haven't noticed others doing the same thing, although that is because this thread is moving fast.

Give it 20 mins and I am sure you will be quiet though ;)

Did you miss my spoiler?

Where I said "sorry but I couldn't resist" with a troll image and a review link to a rick roll video, my post was light hearted too... I like a good bit of banter and do it in most threads particularly the PC gaming section. If I really wanted to be rubbing it in, I wouldn't have bothered with that stuff.

Nah, it is pretty obvious you just wanted to single me out, you know fine well that you are reading all the posts in here just like most other people. I don't know, maybe you just have your rose tinted glasses on again or/and are still mad at me for always bringing up your gregster review bloopers when you post something contradictory

Why do people do this "it's for 4k" or "who needs more speed at 1080p" crap. Okay looking at the only and probably not accurate results so far, one game was way faster at 1080p but gta v only had 70fps average at 1080p and GTA V isn't the worst game around in terms of performance. You can take any relatively old game and go from 200 to 400fps on a new card, but there are also plenty of games that barely break 60fps and have lows below that on the fastest cards available at 1080p.

Most people buy a card for the toughest games and the worst case scenarios in performance.

IE I bought a faster graphics card so that the toughest game I play still runs at 60fps, I didn't get it because some random easy to run game went from 100 to 200fps.

A 980ti/Fury X isn't enough at 1080p for some games today, and there will be a few games that come out this year and even more next year that a 1080/Polaris 10/Vega 10 will struggle at 1080p with, I upgrade for those games, not Borderland and Half Life 2. Based off those results you can say that it's not worth it for Metro but you can equally say it is worth it for GTA V. Not specifically this card is worth it but that 1080p performance is lacking.

People act like if Metro(a relatively old game now) runs at 144fps then it's not required to upgrade for 1080p performance.... because all 1080p games run as fast as Metro, it's a completely illogical stance to take.

i know right

notice that he is f5.....f5 ....f5.....

It would be cool if we could pre-order today. Regardless of what the reviews say, I will be getting one. I just hope the price is a little respectable and there isn't too much gouging going on.

I'm only preordering when custom coolers arrive. Skipping reference this time. Nvidia need to radically change the reference design.

Fair enough and apologies for singling you out. My bad and anticipation is chewing away at me :)

Yer, I didn't want to go water this time but looks like the best way to get the most from these cards, so I will be reference. I would rather air cooled custom though like you.

As much as more competition is nice to see, it wouldn't necessarily be an inherently great thing in this case.

Developers right now only have to manage optimization for two different vendors. If another competitor came in, that's more headaches for them in a time where graphics rendering is already a heavily involved process and churning out a working, well optimized title is actually quite a task.

I think we'd end up seeing a lot more variability in optimization if another manufacturer came in, and it'd be very hard to be as confident that whatever GPU choice you make will give you the expected and desired results in any given game.

And with DX12/Vulkan slowly seeping its way into titles, a 3rd vendor would be a nightmare. We're already likely going to see a stronger leaning towards one specific brand card with DX12/Vulkan simply because the deeper you can go with optimization, the more specialized things will get. It's going to be harder to get those deep optimizations working equally as good for one type of card as another. But either way, DX12/Vulkan is extra work for developers and adding in a 3rd competitor is just gonna be that much more of a hassle. It could easily turn into a situation where devs simply have to prioritize optimization for the leading card(s), which would not bode well for creating a more equal market share among the competitors.

Great explanation thank you Seanspeed.

What scares me a little is that i do not want the pc to become kind of closed architecture where we have certain games running on one vendors card only that would be a nightmare...what makes a pc great is that its open ...
