** The Official Nvidia GeForce 'Pascal' Thread - for general gossip and discussions **

The only way it will happen if a new player comes into the market with a truly new technology. Think the first iphone or the Tesla 3.
It won't come from Nvidia or AMD though that's for sure. They will continue to milk us like the cows we are.

Yes we do need a third contender ....life was so much fun when we had more than two vendors .....but who would it be who is left some one new /old .....i would love to see samsung ,nec ,matrox anybody come into play really. who is still going no one is strong enough is there?

or is it there is not much pennies to be made in gfx industry any more

i will chuckle a bit however if that one dodgey review is not far off the mark, if infact the card is a marginal upgrade and not the 2nd coming of Christ like many people secretly believe, im sure theres more than a few here who have convinced themselves that the card is actually better than it will actually be, before any benchmarks were released etc.

The real issue is going to be the price to be fair, if its a 15-20% upgrade but the resellers gouge hardcore and drive the price up, its going to be a bit of a sad thing :( needless to say though judging by this thread alone the card will sell in droves to the mass of Nvidia fans waiting to buy it.

As i stated before though, im waiting to see where the 1070 lands in price and performance, and then possibly look at the AMD offerings also, this first taster of 1080 whether true or not has put a bit of reality back into the picture for me and convinced me its best to just wait to see all reviews of all forthcoming products before deciding what to buy.

Would hate to be the person who buys the 1080 to find out the Vega comes along at a cheaper price point and smashes the 1080 / 1080ti and the new Titan apart.

The only thing that ***** about selling my 980ti is the wait for a new gpu, i dont regret selling it, im not getting Pascal unless Polaris is released with sub 390x performance, but if i wanted atleast some money back i had to sell now as the prices are tanking on the 980ti. Still looking forward to proper pascal reviews.. going to be interesting to see if the hype holds up..

I will start reporting your posts if you carry on. Something I don't enjoy but I detest those who revel in peoples misfortunes more so!

Funny how you single my post out yet not any of the troll posts that came before mine nor none of the other people posts who are having a joke about the 980ti panic sellers :D

Could say the same with this post of yours:

Stutter and not work in most games? :p

Sorry, somebody had to and it is a joke before I get jumped on :D :D

You must just be trying to stir me up, bless you :D

Well mine was lighthearted and certainly not ridiculing anyone for making a possible mistake and I haven't noticed others doing the same thing, although that is because this thread is moving fast.

Give it 20 mins and I am sure you will be quiet though ;)

Lighten up Greg.. Im not offended by his post one bit and i'm a so call Panic seller(not really). There are fare worse trolls on this forum that post on a regular basis that seems to get ignored constantly. Perhaps they deserve some of your vigilante justice :) Cheers and take with post with a smile m8.

I have preorder Vive so 1080 is a great upgrade for me if their VR performance is real .

Nice one and I also have my Rift coming sometime this week, so I am super excited to see how the 1080 does at 1080P. Plenty of games out there that need the extra push to maintain 90 fps and it will be sweet doing that with all the bells and whistles on

Fair play. It just stood out was all and point taken. People are excited for new GPU launches regardless of buying or not.

Funny reading all the rage. I don't even care. I have one of the first 960's with only 2gb vram. I honestly can't wait. How long do you think it'll take for partners to be releasing 1070's? Rather stick with EVGA for my cards than a stock one.

As much as more competition is nice to see, it wouldn't necessarily be an inherently great thing in this case.

Developers right now only have to manage optimization for two different vendors. If another competitor came in, that's more headaches for them in a time where graphics rendering is already a heavily involved process and churning out a working, well optimized title is actually quite a task.

I think we'd end up seeing a lot more variability in optimization if another manufacturer came in, and it'd be very hard to be as confident that whatever GPU choice you make will give you the expected and desired results in any given game.

And with DX12/Vulkan slowly seeping its way into titles, a 3rd vendor would be a nightmare. We're already likely going to see a stronger leaning towards one specific brand card with DX12/Vulkan simply because the deeper you can go with optimization, the more specialized things will get. It's going to be harder to get those deep optimizations working equally as good for one type of card as another. But either way, DX12/Vulkan is extra work for developers and adding in a 3rd competitor is just gonna be that much more of a hassle. It could easily turn into a situation where devs simply have to prioritize optimization for the leading card(s), which would not bode well for creating a more equal market share among the competitors.
