** The Official Nvidia GeForce 'Pascal' Thread - for general gossip and discussions **

The make or break for the 1080 in my opinion is 1) how good the AIB cards are 2) how much.

1080 a "midrange" or "high end" card?

Mid : 314nm, 256bit bus, 64 rops

Mid / high : 2560 cores is more than normal for midrange, 8Gb memory

High : GDDR5x (although 256bit), MSRP

So overall it is a mix of "midrange" and "high end", the 1070 is "midrange" the 1080 is "mid/high end" and the 1080ti and titan are "high end".
I would get excited about 'labels' it's the fastest gpu money can almost buy.

I agree I was just bored and there was about 1000 pages of people arguing / discussing if this was mid range or high end.

It is a midrange part but is better than the 980 for example, and will be the fastest available for a while. would be my answer.

Looks like nVidia are mobilising to counter Polaris alright!!

So is the current 1080 expected to fall markedly in price or will this 1080Ti be priced up near the £900 mark like the TitanX? Because I don't expect Polaris to be anywhere near those price levels. Or did I misunderstand the article?

How long before the 1080 ti? I don't think I can bring myself to getting a 1080 now

surely the only things that determine if something is high end is the price and/or performance relative to alternatives

1080 will be the fastest, and one of the most expensive gfx cards available when it's released.....kinda high end!

Why? There's nothing new here, we knew it was pretty much guaranteed a 1080Ti will be released.

The timescale is still bound to be 6-12 months from now.

I think I may settle for a 1070 or maybe even Polaris and then sell on for a 1080Ti.

Yeah I think I might get 2 x 1070 and have a play with sli.

Vega doesn't look likely until Q1 2017. I'd expect the same for the 1080Ti. If the Ti uses HBM2 perhaps even after Vega as I'd imagine AMD would get first picks on that.

However, I also believed Polaris would be months ahead of Pascal so it's all just speculation at this point.

Ultimately if you can afford to wait for a price drop or new cards then do it. If you need the performance now/soon then go for the 1080/1070.

That timescale is really an issue though, isn't it?

I feel like not enough people are talking about it. The difference between 6 and 12 months is pretty huge.

And this goes for AMD, too.

Yeah it's definitely an issue. We as consumers must decide if it's worth the wait or not, for us personally.

I personally don't have a choice since I sold my 970 as it wasn't performing adequately for my 1440p monitor, so now I have to pick a card around mid June sometime, despite the fact that the 1080Ti is the long term card I wanted to settle on

Nvidia is getting HbM2 from samsung who are ahead of Hynix in production who are supplying AMD, which is why Nvidia have already demonstrated HBM2 GPUs and will be shipping them soon enough.

Once the 1080ti is released then you have the same question, when is the 1180 going to appear 6-12 months later
