** The Official Nvidia GeForce 'Pascal' Thread - for general gossip and discussions **

Once the 1080ti is released then you have the same question, when is the 1180 going to appear 6-12 months later

Yep. Answering the question of buying now or waiting for the 1080ti or whatever the high end of the range might be, it depends on what you have at the moment. Does it work well with the games you currently play? If yes then hold on, if not, then pick up a new card now.

If people can resist :D, waiting as long as you can before upgrading is probably the better/cheaper option. You won't get much when you sell your existing card but will make a massive jump in performance when you do upgrade.

Acting like NVIDIA aren't a corporate company looking to earn profit, just like every other tech company. I'm sure Sony already have a PS5 lined up, AMD are doing the exact same with their cards, monitor manufacturers have a couple more monitors ready to release in 6 months, etc.

There is nothing new with the 1080/1080Ti setup, it's always been like this. Anyone acting surprised by the fact that the 1080 will underperform compared to the 1080Ti is an idiot, and using terms like 'noobs, gimped, shill' just make you sound like a pathetic fanboy.

Disclaimer: I'm not protecting NVIDIA from criticism, but trying to make a point that those buying these expensive cards should know what they're getting and are making their own informed decision on if they can afford it and if it's worth it to them.

And now the big question is the price... will it cost more than the reference founder's edition or less? I also just watched a JayzTwoCents video about the 1080 thermal throttling. Turns out on default settings the fans don't even go above 55% to stop the throttling. So here's to AIB cards being able to deal with it a lot better.

And now it's got me wondering how far the AIB cards will overclock... I guess we'll have to wait for benchmarks of cards like the EVGA hybrid. For everyone who wants to buy a 1080, I hope these AIB cards release soon for you folks. No doubt they'll put the reference FE design to shame in almost every way.

Yeah it's definitely an issue. We as consumers must decide if it's worth the wait or not, for us personally.

I personally don't have a choice since I sold my 970 as it wasn't performing adequately for my 1440p monitor, so now I have to pick a card around mid June sometime, despite the fact that the 1080Ti is the long term card I wanted to settle on

Out of interest in what applications was the 970 not performing adequately at 1440p? :)

And I clarified in comparison to pascal.

Yes you did later which i conceeded, at the time you just blanketed stated a die shrunk maxwell would be slower and need more power which to me is just the opposite result of a die shrink :p

I still stand though that apart from VR improvements, if they had just die shrunk maxwell then you would perhaps have had 980ti running at 1800 to 1900 and would have been cheaper to produce, probably used the same power and would only be perhaps 10% slower than Pascal.

So really we have gained very little with Pascal IMO.

My money is on many of these variants costing the same. I don't doubt you will be able to get a 1080/1070 for less than the cost of the FE, but there will be a catch... either cooling won't be as good as other cards, less power connectors or some such thing. Any other strategy will see sales of the FE fall off a cliff, which neither Nvidia or the AIB's will want to happen. I fear prices for these custom cards are going to anger a lot of people... but people will buy them regardless. :(
