** The Official Nvidia GeForce 'Pascal' Thread - for general gossip and discussions **

they always pick silly names

like pheonix, Classfied edition

i want more down to earth names
why not use:
Best of the bunch edition :D
Peanuts edition (cheaper) :P

Yes you did later which i conceeded, at the time you just blanketed stated a die shrunk maxwell would be slower and need more power which to me is just the opposite result of a die shrink :p

I still stand though that apart from VR improvements, if they had just die shrunk maxwell then you would perhaps have had 980ti running at 1800 to 1900 and would have been cheaper to produce, probably used the same power and would only be perhaps 10% slower than Pascal.

So really we have gained very little with Pascal IMO.

I didn't blanket state anything about maxwell, merely that a die shrunk maxwell would have lower clock speeds and higher power draw than Pascal, which is easily proven looking at the 16nmFF process.

You are welcome to opinion, but it is easily proven false by the facts. The clock speed and power consumption of the 1080 far exceeded the theoretical upper limit up what TSMC claim is possible, let alone this is being done with a billion less transistors than GM200.

Gotta feel sry for the Australians just crazy...

On the contrary, I don't think they go far enough... I want to see the Gigabyte Dark Nightmare; the MSI S.O.B Hellraiser; EVGA Infernal Cataclysm and the Asus Apocalypse RGB Edition. :p

Is the GB XTREME 3 slot then?

Made it shorter but fatter...

Yes i would imagine it being fatter ...as with the the other gigabytes 900's 3 x fan some of there board length's where upto over 30cm so for most case's no fit or way too tight ect hence the change..which is good more compatibility more sales i guess

Out of interest in what applications was the 970 not performing adequately at 1440p? :)

Witcher 3, GTAV, Rainbow 6, etc.

I know I could achieve 60fps if I lowered settings.. But I'm aiming for 60fps+ on high/max settings.. So I'll be looking at a 980Ti/1070/1080/Polaris to buy in mid June, depending on performance and prices.

Well if that EVGA one is legit, it has 2 Power sockets on it, which means it should be able to draw more power than the FE for OC'ing etc right?.

Looking at that Rig, the guy does not have an SSD as far as i can tell lol, not that it matters much, just found it odd.

No you added that part about in relation to Pascal later, at the time you just said Maxwell would be lower clock speeds and higher power with a die shrink. Full stop.

I agree with you though that it wouldnt reach 1080 speeds once you clarified you were comparing it to Pascal and not just stating a fact about die shrinks :P

Yeah Witcher 3 is very heavy. I 'had' a 780ti and used ultra 60fps and whilst in terms of raw horse power it outclasses the 970, optimization has shown the 970 in recent gaming benchmarks to get a good chunk more FPS than the 780ti. Am too awaiting those cards.

So custom boards already available... I never understood the FE but now I have to say wtf?

I listened to NV's "explanation" for why it exists but it was clearly lies. Can anyone help me out here?

My opinion is that the founders card is a Buffered priced card so that when the partners come in with there high pricers it does not look so bad so its an nvidia price cushion....what ever that is :)

There are 2 explanations :

1) premium card, with availability throughout life of 1080

2) reference card which is OP

Whether it is 1) or 2) will depend on how much the custom cards are.
