Interesting addition to the Article 50 clause.

from Article 50 "For the agreement to enter into force it needs to be approved by at least 72 percent of the continuing member states representing at least 65 percent of their population, and the consent of the European Parliament"

So it looks like the EU could potentially deny exit! Ha! Not that they would...

Which would make a lot of sense... it should be a much greater majority.

You b*ggers won't let us in ;)

LOL - nah it's only if you're coming by boat... otherwise it's fine.

How humid is it over there?

It ranges - we're in the depths of winter at the moment - it can get pretty humid in the more northern cities but Sydney is pretty moderate. On stinking hot days it's hard to move without needing a new work shirt, but the upside is that there are a zillion beaches in short distance.

"Every nation gets the government foisted on them by the rich oligarchy actually running the country" (SteveOBHave)

Indeed. And there's the crux of it all and why the British press and media have been so willing to propagate the campaign disinformation and lies. Vested interests.

Whip up a populist revolt in the name of "taking back control" whilst actually taking away control and disenfranchising people further.

Which is why all the "we won" gloating on here is so deeply tragic.

https://petition.parliament.uk/ crashed just now because of the influx of signatures on that second referendum petition. Back up now. It has gone up by 25,000 signatures since my last post about it.

e; Just went up by 1000 signatures since writing this...I was refreshing it earlier and it was going up by 100 every few seconds for a while.

Signed. Can't be bothered with a bunch of racist fossils ruining our future.

This is also coming from a guy who was accused of being a racist multiple times in the immigration thread. So i'm not exactly a sit around the campfire and sing kumbaya kind of guy. But I knew from the beginning the importance the EU holds.

Sorry... :(

Can we ban being ignorant as well though please? (not referring to you in case you wondered, im not that stupid/brave :D )

It would be great if in threads like these you had to answer randomly generated 10 fact based questions about the debate before entering. If you fail on more than 5 you would have to go away and research a bit more before trying again.

Would solve a lot of problems, but would be pretty empty in here.

Grand prize of - some of the biggest daily moves in the £, and nationwide share prices. Congrats you are now 10% poorer than last night!:p

What the majority of them fail to realise is that in order to bolster the economy taxes are going to be leveraged to settle the market. Seeing as the major tax paying component of the nation is the lower socio-economic groups, they're going to be the ones hurt first and hardest. Big earners have many ways of dodging the taxman so they couldn't give a damn and a slight rise in goods and services won't make them blink. However average Joe on 17-20K per year with 3 kids living paycheck to pay check are going to see their quality of living drop significantly.

Personally I think it's a criminal price to pay for listening to people that don't have an honest bone in their bodies. Trusting a politician and what they say is foolish in the extreme and the end result has been voting with hearts and not minds.

Or just the ability to answer a question would be nice :).

I used to consider it pointless versus full membership but now that's gone it's the next best thing and I hope we adopt it.

This. But I very much doubt most leave supporters would feel anything but betrayal if Johnston and Gove agreed to it.

Even better, have a system like this before you can collect your ballot paper to vote. Trouble is, "what is the EU?" might have stumped quite a lot of people ;)

except Norway have a rake of oil approx 1.9million barrels a day which is about 1 million more than the UK so they at least have that going for them. We would only be headed EEA if the next UK PM/government agrees to the terms. If it's Boris I am not sure that deal will ever make it to the table for any serious discussion as they would need to concede everything they basically fought their campaign on, although that doesn't usually bother politicians once they get in power

I don't know about that. Boris may be the best option for this as he is the least entrenched of the Brexit figure heads. He seemed to chose leave only for political reasons, rather than a burning desire to leave Europe.

He's the best hope we have I think of having any reasonable access to the free market, even if it means giving away what many brexiteers were fighting for.

Edit:

Did they both not say they were Pro Immigration?

Nate

I doubt that would stop the disappointment of many leavers.
