Looks nice but it’s huge and the build looks incredibly repetitive.

They can put so many pieces in it because there all the same colour and very few unique elements.

What's the best big build you guys have done? Tempted to pick up a falcon to build then move on... Undecided.

Wee boys well into Harry Potter now (6 years old) but hogwarts big castle looks a bit... Meh... He just built the 9+ technics corvette and tempted to get the Land rover so we can both have a little fun...

All of this big builds are incredibly repetitive, alas. I remember the Sydney Opera House was a bit meh, although impressive as a showpiece. Have the Taj Mahal (relaunch) and Harry Potter Castle BNIB. Nowhere to display them so they'll be staying in the loft for a while yet.
Tower Bridge is a good one, although the towers are pretty much identical, obv.

Just finished the Ghostbusters Firehouse over half-term with my 5-year-old and that wasn't particularly repetitive. Lots of fun little features in there as well.

I get more out of the ‘large’ builds than the huge ones. The Falcon is good but it’s fragile. Spend an hour putting it back together after my wife picked it up and moved it once.

The 1989 batmobile was very good as are the brick build cars like the mustang.

Some of the architecture sets are very good like the stature of liberty, others are extremely repetitive (I’m looking at you Empire State Building) but the overall impact of those sets are great. I think it’s my favourite theme at the moment along side ideas.

Wife has just built Diagon Alley. She’s only got it as a display piece but there’s plenty going on there to make a fairly big play set as well for a kid.

I'd recommend a couple of varied technics sets. Go for one with power functions motors and RC. Get one with pneumatics. Once built, you'll have sufficient parts to do your own custom builds.

Sariel's "unofficial lego technics builder's guide" is an outstanding buy and gives you the tools to do some amazing stuff.

I'm not a fan of static display models.

My all-time favourite is the lego 8455 jcb digger- no longer manufactured, so ebay for that one. Lots of pneumatics in the kit. Also, it is incredibly robust and solid. Every kid who's seen it loves that one!

Haha, I used to have that digger! Built all of my lego maybe 8 years ago and sold it, including the golden train set. Wish I'd kept it all now, didn't have a kid back then though. Hindsight.

Me chucking out a bunch of classic 80s metal LPs a few years back goes in the hindsight category, too. Would get around £30 each for those on ebay now...
