***The Official OcUK Lego Thread***

If something is made in the EU there shouldn’t be any import duty. Emphasis on made in the EU, not sold in the EU. You have to pay U.K. VAT on the purchase but either way, Amazon sort it out for you, the price on the screen is the price you pay.
Tbh the optimus prime seems mega cheap, £110 by my works (on amazon.de), didn't think the others were much cheaper (I assumed 20% duty, so in jindsighy might be a bit cheaper). The atat was quite a bit more though.

You only pay import duty if the value exceeds £135 (not including shipping)
and only if the goods originate (e.g. where they are made not sold) outside of somewhere that we don't have a trade deal with.

Lego for the EU is generally made in the EU so there should not be any import duty as we have an free trade agreement with the EU. VAT still applies though, Amazon is an online marketplace so deals with it on behalf of the seller (including sold by Amazon).

The "free trade agreement" you are thinking of is referring to tariffs.

There are still going to be Custom Duty, VAT and all that jazz for anything over £135. It's no different than buying something from the States or Japan.

Well yes and no. Yes you have to pay customs duty, no because everything covered by the FTA is 0%. That is the whole point of the FTA, the FTA covers toys so its 0% in both directions assuming the good actually originate in the EU and are not just being sold from there.

It's also why you don't pay duty from the lego.com online store, you pay in £ but the goods actually come from Belgium as that is where their EU warehouse is.

The TLDR is that you don't customs duty when ordering Lego from the EU.

EDIT: Tariffs = import duty, they are one and the same. The rates vary depending on the good being presented.

Are you sure... According to the Lego store, it's because they are charged at checkout within the price:

Customs, duties and taxes
When you make a purchase on the LEGO® Shop, any applicable customs, duties and taxes are included in the order total you see when you click ‘checkout’. There’s no need to worry about any additional or unexpected charges.

https://www.lego.com/en-gb/service/help/online_shop/customs-duties-and-taxes-kA009000001dcDwCAI.

So, although you won't get an unexpected duty charge, it's because it's paid for at checkout from what I can make out.

Edit - I meant to add that, if you purchase on the Lego UK site then, for all intents and purposes, you have bought within the UK. If Lego decide to ship it from an EU warehouse, that's up to them.

If you bought from Lego DE then this may be different as you bought it from an EU site

Yes, the tax applies but its 0% because its covered by our FTA with the EU. They cover it in the T&C's because they don't then need to edit their T&C's if the UK government goes full retard with the EU, they don't need to change them and they can just apply what ever the new rate is.

If you don't believe me, check a import duty calculator. (e.g. https://www.simplyduty.com/import-calculator/) or better yet, read the UK EU trade and cooperation agreement.

Edit: See this: https://www.trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/commodities/9503003500

4% is the global rate but its 0% if they originate from the EU.

I think that's were I'm getting confused. Optimus is one I'll try though as it works out to be below that value.

Probably a sign it will be discontinued and they are not making any more. That set has been around for years now.

The space shuttle was the latest NASA set and that’s been out at least a year at this point so they all could be destined for the chopping block sooner or later.

Weirdly some of the soon to be discontinued Star Wars sets haven’t gone up. At least the retailers don’t seem to have put their prices up, so I guess I just won’t be buying direct.
