***The Official OcUK Lego Thread***

It’s also pretty risks compared to just, investing. A lot of sets that look like instant classics don’t turn out to be and they are churning out so many sets at the moment meaning there is so much new stuff to look at, it takes you away from the older stuff.

Lego have started a habit of re-releasing popular sets that fetched silly money to get a slice of the pie. I think the golden days of the big profits on the secondary market have long passed.

I have quite a few investment sets.
A few I have multiples of are:

Saturn V
ISD
ISS
Disney castle
Technic cars

IMO. Its better than stocks for small scale.
Probably best way you can spend under 5k. Especially under 1k

For me it's done waaaay better than my stocks over 2 years.

I'd say overall my lego value is 25pc up over the last 12 months. And 75 percent of my inventory has only retired this month.

I picked up many saturn vs pre black Friday. Now fetching 190 on ebay.
Bought for 105

I don’t buy it to invest, but out of “not sure where to put them if i build them”, means they are boxed and I still have

Wall-E, worth £250 (£60)
Porsche GT4 - £600 (£200)
Pet Shop - £250 (£110)
Mercedes Arocs - £300 (£120)
Villa Savoye - £200 (paid £60)
Crawler Crane - £250 (paid £70?)
Red 5 UCS - £300 (paid £90)

Also got things like the Beetle, Defender, Nintendo, Central Perk Cafe.

There is like £2k of Lego there, but I think doubled my money.

Interesting how much they've gone up considering they're relatively cheap sets. Do the more expensive ones go up a similar percent or less?

Very varied.

Myself I kind of have a rules. I keep until it goes up by nearly 100pc and 100 pounds. Just not worth hassle selling 20 pound sets that go up to 50 for example

I get you. I assume they're boxed/unopened? I've got a tantove I've in my loft as I ordered one for myself amd so did the mrs, but ive not looked into pricing.

Yes. All boxed and sealed. For some reason seals add a lot of value.

My porsche 911 is best of bunch. Hitting nearly 600 and cost 170 (I think) in 2019

Batmobile is good too. Cost 200. Now about 350

One that I expected to do well but didn't is jurassic world gates and T-Rex. Hasn't moved at all.

Helmets have done amazing. Just look at the tie fighter one! (75274)
Cost about 50. Now selling for 180+

I only buy very near retirement or sales. Got a few of guardians of galaxy at 75 each. I'll hold them until retiring

I think the Defender will eventually hit £300 easy and that was like £75 at one point, when i bought it, as it was a £170 RRP set.

Not sure Defender will go crazy - it's a bit niche, same as the Chiron.
Can't believe Wall-E price - I had one back in the day.

I've bought a bit of Lego recently which will stay boxed - if they don't make money I'll build them as they're mainly sets I like (Speed Champions - being a car guy) or will gift to my kids (10 & 7).
Mainly stuff that's been on sale - 30/40% - except the older Speed Champions which I paid a premium for because I actually wanted them.

Also surprised the JP gates thing hasn't gone up since retiring - I think the new set will do better.

I really want 42096 Porsche 911 RSR Sports Car but it's never really heavily reduced.

Did the ISS set over the holidays, not a bad build but not great although completes all the recent NASA sets for me. Also ordered a load of alt brand models as much of the current technic Lego line-up just doesn't interest me; hopefully they all turn up in the next week or so.

Ford GT looks interesting but the BatCycle, fire plane and smaller sets don't appeal.
