***The Official OcUK Lego Thread***

Chaps - what's a good buy for my 4.5yr old? She has loads of Duplo which we play all the time, and she has started getting some normal Lego - mostly from magazines etc. Most of this finds its way back in a box smashed up though. I am thinking for Xmas I get her something slightly larger we can work on together. I bought my nephew the Porsche technics thing a while back for 60 quid.

Is there something similar that's a co-build for Xmas day? Reasonably substantial and can be played with reasonably well?

I have never built a Technic set but it's never appealed to me as none of them look particularly realistic. Or perhaps I'm missing the point of it? Any good Technic sets out there that don't look really clunky and obviously Lego? That's one of the reasons I like the Optimus Prime lego, as his looks are fitting a Lego model.

I have a couple of Technic sets and they do look fairly good. With some its more about the technical aspect with the suspension and gears etc.

I have the Land Rover and Dom's Charger. Both retired now though.

OK let me rephrase it with slight more honesty - what Lego Technic can I build and she can watch me and maybe play with afterwards? :D
Follow up to this - are there any remote control Technics models that people would recommend? I may be going 2nd hand here as well, as budget isn't huge.

What is the budget?
The Lego Audi Etron is built solid for RC capabilities... You may be limited though depending on budget as you're going to need motors etc unless you have these already.

I can probably stretch to £150 but ideally less than that. The Porsche RSR I got was a bargain at ~£60 I think.

The Etron looks fun - are you saying the motors are sold separately?

Will have a proper look later when I'm in front of the laptop.
So the Etron is an out of the box RC model so if you wanted to RC a non RC model you'd need to purchase motors and the RC kit separately.
Off the top of my head I'm not sure what RC kits there are for Lego, if any Technic.

This is incorrect :) The Etron is ready out of the box for RC. I know because both of my sons have the same kit

All good old technic sets are expensive.

My favourites were
The power functions rc bulldozer. That one is great, and is also big. It comes with 3 or 4 motors, so is good for building other stuff.
Lego JCB model 8455- loads of pneumatics. My favourite technics kit of all.
The power function rc dinosaur is also fantastic. It's a TRex and it actually walks and roars. Comes with 3 or 4 motors. Set 4958.

Mega thank you! Just made a few cheeky offers on the Dozer and TREX. Secretly hoping both are accepted :D

Is it exclusively mobile phone controlled or can you buy a proper controller for it? That's the only thing putting me off.
