***The Official OcUK Lego Thread***

Once I move house and get some time to relax later this month I'm thinking of treating myself to some Lego. What's the best value kit around at the moment for under £100? I've got the Technic F1 car which, given its size, was great VFM.

Either that or a few cheaper kits. Anything on offer?

Old sets are the best for accumulating lots of useful parts.

Lego set 8455 (JCB digger) from ebay- under £60 is a reasonable price. That's probably one of the best sets Lego have ever made and has lots of pneumatic cylinders.

8868 truck is a big set with lots of bits and a few pneumatic parts. Dunno what's a good price these days...

Finished my new X-wing, 750 parts and a complete pig to build, but worth it :D

So after reading through this thread I've caved in and bought some Lego from the store.

The Rover is out of stock so that will arrive February time, but the Camper should arrive sometime this week!

It's on eBay for ~£35 but I can wait :p

Got my son's Birthday presents early as it looks like the Jabba set's about to be stopped/run out. You can't have the palace with the rancor set! ;)

And then a cheap set for him to earn because he wanted a yoda :)

As someone who in the last 3 months has spent >£200 in Lego and knowing that some of you guys have spent a lot more than that, how many of you have considered making you own Lego bricks?

A 3D printer can now be purchased for £600 with raw materials at £36 per colour

I'm tempted, not only for printing odd Lego bricks but for all the other cool (useless :D) stuff that could be printed!

All in the last week :p

About half was from a bulk ebay lot, so missing a couple of minifigs, but for the price i got them at, i didnt mind...will be on the lookout for those separately :)

Completed book one of the Grand Prix Racer, really cool model. Working diff, engine and pushrod suspension mounted to the engine like on a proper F1 car. I can see why the kits cost so much now.

^^ Finished my GP racer a few weeks back. It's a pretty enjoyable and easy build, and some interesting parts. I liked the mechanism to switch between DRS flap and raising the engine cover.

It really is quite surprising how big the thing ends up too.

From building loads of RC models, the process is fairly similar, obviously with less screws, grease and swearing. I probably won't get another as they are pretty expensive and take up lots of room when built, unless they release the Defender 110 that's on Cuusoo ATM.

Nanoblocks look interesting, kits are pretty cheap and they look fairly challenging due to the tiny pieces: http://www.nanoblockuk.com/sights.html

Ha I looked at those pics and was like huh? I did that this weekend... well, I say "I" it was me helping Brook, who turned 9 at the weekend. Mainly him (annoyingly as I wanted to play!) but it was awesome to explain all the parts which are on real cars. Loved the suspension set up too.

^^ excellent - me and the wee man are 2 hours into building the LEGO Technic 9396 Rescue Helicopter. He's loving it so far, I find the pieces and he's happy building - more tonight I hope

Ha that's the way we did it, with me putting in any tricky hard to get in bits. I just provide him with all the pieces on the table and he puts it together.

The helicopter is a cool one. I would like the pick up truck or lorry one next... I mean, I'd like him to have...
