** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

I think you guys can rest assured that that you should get a UK (ISO) layout if bought from a UK retailer. Retailer just show the US layout as manufactures tend to use US layout for photoshots.

starmanwarz probably got it imported, I did too with my Quickfire Rapid, as getting a MX Brown in the UK is nearly impossible ATM.

I personally prefer the US layout as it is so much easier to buy key caps and aesthetically it looks nicer IMO cos of symmetry.

for Ryan-3, you might already know this, set windows to US international (instead of standard US), then AltGr+Shift+4 gives you £ sign. I use blank key caps so just set UK layout within windows, iirc altgr+# gives me \ so i don't loose any keys and have a UK layout.

BTW, Kreeeee, you play SF4? seem to remember playing with you on xbox a few years back.

Ah, I forgot about that BornEvil. I'll go try that out, it might remove my only downside of the layout! :D

edit: Ah, as I try that I remember why it doesn't work for me. I have no AltGr key :p

AltGr is just the right Alt key, but it might depend on the programming of the keyboard chipset, i.e. the manufacture went cheap and routed both Alt keys to the same function. My QFR works fine.

I used to go to tournaments for it in Manchester, Birmingham and London. Packed it all in now though, sold the arcade cabinet I converted and sold most of my sticks. I play SCII now for my competitive fix.

I'll have to email the retailers as a US layout would greatly upset me :p

Right, I've decided on brown keys.

Now to find the board. I game quite often and do some programming, I've narrowed it down to..

- UK Filco Ninja Majestouch-2
- Zowie Celeritas
- Qpad MK-80
- Steelseries 6VG (unsure)

Can anyone help? Been going full circle with these for days. I think I need it to be backlit and prefer a wrist rest for how I sit which makes me think Celeritas is the way to go..

Have you looked at the Ducky's? The "Zero" is pretty cheap, and their build quality is pretty good, failing that - their "full fat" ones are also quite nice, I plan on getting the TKL version for my birthday, unsure if I should go the LED route, or stick with just pure white keys... Either way, the Ducky's come at a fraction cheaper than the Filco's and on-par build quality.

Yeah, I really like backlit keys, helps as it's normally quite dark in my room. I'll have a look at those Ducky's though. Thanks.

Narrowed it down even further..

- Zowie Celeritas (MX Brown)

- Steelseries 6Gv2 (MX Brown)

Leaning towards SteelSeries as then it'll match my mouse and mouse mat ("FANBOY!" I hear you shout..)

On the other hand I really like the little wrist stand on the Zowie :(

Go for a Ducky, Filco, Leopold or Noppoo.

The keycaps are coated in this nylon like substance, which takes every piece of dirt off your fingers, and causes them to look dirty very quickly. Which means you will have to wipe them a lot, but they are meant to feel nice :)
