** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

I am contemplating getting a mechanical keyboard.

How do people rate the Razer Black Widow Ultimate ?

I believe it has Cherry Blue keys. I really like the look of it and it goes with my Razer Mamba mouse.

I bought my Dad one last year and whilst its a great keyboard for typing - gaming on it feels a bit 'meh.' The keys take longer to come back to you rather than the red/brown/black switches plus they are very loud and could annoy other members of your household when your playing into the wee hours.

I myself have a Qpad MK85 with red switches and would simply not change this keyboard for anything else. I like the light keys because I play a lot of FPS, although I think its very important to mention what games you like to play as one switch type might suit one particular style of game but wouldn't suit another.

Most members on here swear by the brown switches, you get the best of both worlds, the tactile feel whilst being excellent for gaming at the same time.

Hope this helps.

I have no problems with the response of modern wireless keyboards. For me, it's the typing (and gaming) 'feel' that you get from mechanical keys that makes the difference.

I'll take that as a no then.:p

I only know of the KBT one I mentioned, I don't know how good it will be wireless though.

Some people complain about the Razer for its price compared to other keyboards in the price range. Something like the Zowie (which I like a lot, just didn't fancy the cleaning the keys a lot bit) is said to be a better keyboard, and doesn't have the macro keys at the side (something which is preferencial I suppose).

For switches though, I do swear by Browns :D

what are your guys thoughts on the logitech G710+?

I literally tried it at a friends house 1 hour ago, I was incredibly impressed with the build quality. There is no wobbling of keys just like my Ducky, unlike my QFR.

The o-ring mod is not to my liking, but probably cos i am so used to my own keyboard.

My m8 did not let me do a flex test on his brand new KB...

I am personally not very fond of the look of it though. More of a clean look keyboard type of guy.

OCUK received my QPAD MK-80 back and confirmed the USB Hub was faulty so are sending me out a replacement which should arrive mid week. Good. Got used to it quickly and hate anything else now. It's obvious how much noisier it was now that I go back to a low profile rubber domed one though. Oh well.

Which switch would you guys recommend for someone who uses their PC only for playing MMORPGs like WoW and TERA? How are black switches for these type of games because there's one or two keyboards I've seen that are in stock and only available with black switches in the UK :( Can't find any suitable keyboards with red switches.

Would you say the Ducky DK9087 Shine II TKL is worth the extra £30-40 over the Cooler Master QF Rapid? Reason I ask is because I absolutely want a TKL one as I will be using it hopefully for many years to come so I don't want to regret it, and it's hard to find a CM QFR that isn't a Black switch one in the UK! Hence why I'm happy to consider paying the extra which will be almost twice my original budget for a new gaming keyboard lol.

I've been looking at the razer blackwidow's and I've fallen in love with their looks, would anyone reccomend one for gaming?

They use blues switches, and apparently they're very loud?

I've never had a Ducky myself but from what I've heard they are really good build quality and just all round great keyboards. I think the main reason I'd rather get it than the CM is because I hate black switches :p

If you are going to be using it for a while you might as well get the best you can.

I have blue switches and they are perfectly fine for gaming. They are really loud though.

Most people don't like these keyboards at all, switches feel "weird", build quality is not as good as other keyboards and the software they come with is very problematic.

As for the blue switches yes they are the loudest ones.

You could easily find a Blackwidow at a store and test it yourself, If you don't like it then I would suggest to take a look at the CM Storm keyboards, recently got me a CM Storm TK with brown switches and I've fallen in love with it ;)

I like your reasoning. Over the years, I will be glad I spent the extra on a keyboard I won't regret. I've found somewhere that has stock of the Ducky DK-9087 Shine II with Blue switches and Blue LEDs, or Brown switches with Green LEDs (which I think I can live with) but that's £130! Some serious consideration needed there because I would prefer Blue to Green LEDs, but I would prefer Brown to Blue switches too, although I gotta say the Blue switches sound so good.

There's also the same Ducky TKL board for £106 with all 4 types of switches, but problem is they have Pink LEDs!

Ok, I now see a Filco Majestouch-2 TKL with Blue switches for £114 also.
