** The Official OcUK Mechanical Keyboard Thread **

I dunno really, I just ...did. Maybe when I started using a calculator on my desk a lot, since the keypad is laid out like one, that's about the best I can come with anyway ...but really I don't know, I just started using it more and more over time.

However I've had to get out of that since I left the keypad behind.

Could look at the KBC Pokers if you don't mind missing the F keys. The Pictures of the choc mini don't do it any justice, it really does look good.
Just had a look at those, but the choc mini looks much nicer I think. :)
It seems I dismissed the kbc poker without giving it a proper look (cue many hours trawling through geekhack). Conceptully it is a lot more elegant than the choc mini, although I'm not so sure on the exposed pcb, or the detachable usb cable (will be used exclusively with a desktop).
I like that you can switch the left windows key to another Fn key, so it's easier to use F1-4 with the left hand.

I'm now struggling to decide between these two. Of course I'd prefer a mini keyboard with a UK layout (because with gaming I really like the \ key) but it seems none exist.

Build quality looks to be hit and miss in some cases, with problems being more likely with the choc mini (at least from what I've read). A bit worrying when buying from abroad.

Edit: Ah, sod it. I've gone for the noppoo in black. I'll post some thoughts once I receive it (by the end of next week if all goes well). :D

I've had the KBC poker for a while now and i could just not go back to a non-mechanical keyboard. Mine has Cherry Brown's and i find them really nice to type on and play the odd game. It will get a lot more abuse when BF3 comes out. I love that fact its tiny so takes up so little space but the key size doesn't have to suffer.

If I still traveled as much as I used to I would by a KBC Poker for use with my laptop. I might still get one anyway, never any harm in having a nice portable keyboard around ...beats my laptop one by a country mile anyway. Also I want to try some brown switches, see how they feel next to my reds.

So which key switches did you opt for in the end ?
Browns.
I like a bit of tactile feedback, though I'm sure in the future I'd like to try reds at some point.
In terms of the keyboard colour, I was tempted by the white version - just looks so clean. But everything else I have is black so it would look a bit out of place. :p

I chose it over the poker because if I'd got the poker I'd have gone for it with pbt keycaps, which is around £10 more than the choc mini.
Also because I felt it less of a compromise compared with the small issues on the poker - lack of feet, esc lock bug, arrow keys, lack of dedicated F keys, exposed pcb, and (personaly, though I imagine some would like this feature) the detachable usb cable.

My only concerns with the choc are build quality and from what I've read/watched, a slightly rattly spacebar.

My space bar is fine, I have heard they can be a bit rattly though, then again the Filco ones are also known to squeak ...which to me would be more annoying, my Filco does not though.

I bought the Choc Chip rather than the KBC because I couldn't live without access to unmodified F keys on my desktop ...be aright for a travel board though. All in all I feel the Choc Chip Mini is the best compromise between being compact and functional.

I got a FILCO majestouch 2 with cherry browns recently after getting tempted by this thread. To be honest apart from it being more clicky and heavier I haven't really noticed any difference in day to day use vs my old £10 MS jobbie. Yes it's matte so doesn't pick up dirt as badly, and yes it feels better built due to the weight, but honestly I consider it largely a waste of money.

Use is mainly gaming but I can do full 10 key touch typing.

This isn't meant to be a troll post honest! Just giving my honest opinion after a few weeks usage.

Just gone for the Filco Majestouch Tenkeyless with MX-Browns. What swayed me is a 10% off code and the offer of a free goody bag with the order.

Will let you all know how I get on with it.

I have the same keyboard but with MX-Blacks.

You will love it, trust me :)

Did you order the red escape & wasd keys?
